I was at Pioneer Square on Sunday standing in protest of the horrible attack on the people of Gaza. As tears were rolling down my cheeks in the freezing cold, I remembered the large march I attended almost 2 years ago in Portland, where over 20,000 people came to protest the Iraq war.
Where are they today? Why are they silent now? WHERE ARE YOU people NOW? Are you really against war or just the Iraq war? If you are against the occupation of Iraq, why are you SILENT while the LONGEST occupation in the ME is still ongoing and people are dying in their beds NOW?? Is it a numbers issue? Must more Palestinians starve and die? Is it a sympathy issue because you have some emotional hang-up with Israel and you can't get yourself to see TRUTHFULLY that they are the AGGRESSOR?
Have you noticed that the left and especially anarchists in Israel are protesting this aggression? Why don't you?
I'm thoroughly disappointed and saddened that so few Portlanders came to the protest on Sunday. The same phenomenon appeared 1,5 years ago when Lebanon was being attacked by Israel. I attended two rallies for a cease-fire then and the turnout was SHAMEFUL for Portland!!! Why are peace-activists so selective when it involves Israel? Can Israel do no harm in your eyes?
If you are against war crimes, against occupation of a defenseless people, against collective punishment, deliberate starvation and fascism, I EXPECT TO SEE YOU
SATURDAY, Jan 10 at PIONEER SQUARE at 3 PM!
