Become a Harvest Leader with Portland Fruit Tree Project

Portland Fruit Tree Project 2015 Volunteer Opportunity: Become a Harvest Leader! Join Portland Fruit Tree Project in preventing waste, building community, and making fresh fruit available to neighbors in need... As a Harvest Leader, you will co-lead group harvesting events in your neighborhood! It's a fun way to meet your neighbors and help make locally grown produce available to all. Harvest Leader Overview: Harvesting parties bring people together to harvest fruit that might otherwise go to waste, and make it available to people in need. Each harvesting party is co-led by 2 volunteer Harvest Leaders. Harvest Leaders are responsible for overseeing and leading harvest participants, distributing harvested fruit, and keeping accurate harvest records. Portland Fruit Tree Project will provide all of the necessary training, materials, and support. Each Leader is expected to co-lead at least 5 harvesting parties in the 2015 harvest season (August - November). "I love leading groups of enthusiastic, compassionate and caring volunteers to bring healthy food to those in need. Every time I volunteer with PFTP I go home with a skip to my step, feeling really, really good about what I was just a part of. It's about the best volunteering experience I've ever had." - 2013 & 2014 Harvest Leader, Suzanne As a Harvest Leader you will have the opportunity to gain or hone marketable skills including: team-building, public speaking, time management, multi-tasking, working with diverse groups, group facilitation, and community-building! Harvest Leader Responsibilities: - Attend Harvest Leader training (on Thursday June 25th, 5-9pm, or Sunday June 28th, 10am - 4pm) If you cannot attend one of these trainings, we may be able to arrange an alternate training date. If providing child care would help you attend, please check in with us. - Co-lead at least 5 harvesting parties in the 2015 Harvest Season (July-November) - Oversee harvest participants, coordinate logistics, and facilitate introductions, safety talk and wrap-up during harvesting parties. - Deliver of 50% of harvested fruit to a local food pantry - Keep thorough records and submit Harvest Reports to PFTP staff promptly. - Attend mid-season Harvest Leader meeting - optional (Wednesday, August 19th, 6:00-7:30pm) - Complete year-end survey (December) - Celebrate! Attend year-end celebration and volunteer appreciation event in December 2015 (optional).
