Public Interest Environmental Law Conference  http://www.PIELC.com

From an initial gathering of just fifteen speakers and seventy-five participants in 1983, we have grown to become the world's biggest public interest environmental law conference.

With assistance from keynoters, panelists, and participants alike, we plan to inspire a renewed commitment to collaboration and outreach among conference attendees. We expect the conference to enhance the success of environmental lawyers and to contribute to a more vigorous movement that resonates across society.

Description of Keynote:Our Children's Trust elevates the voice of youth to secure the legal right to a stable climate and healthy atmosphere for the benefit of all present and future generations. Through our programs, youth participate in advocacy, public education and civic engagement to ensure the viability of all natural systems in accordance with science. Our mission is to protect earth's atmosphere and natural systems for present and future generations. We lead a gamechanging legal campaign seeking systemic, science-based emissions reductions and climate recovery policy at all levels of government. We give young people, those with most at stake in the climate crisis, a voice to favorably impact their futures. In 2015, 21 youth, along with climate scientist Dr. James Hansen, acting as guardian for future generations and his granddaughter, filed a landmark constitutional climate change lawsuit against the U.S. government. The lawsuit claims the U.S. government, by allowing and promoting the development and use of fossil fuels, has knowingly and deliberately caused dangerous climate change, thus violating plaintiffs' constitutional due process and equal protection rights. Attorneys and youth plaintiffs will discuss developments in this groundbreaking lawsuit as it heads to trial in 2018.

A different kind of world is not just possible; it is a crucial and urgent necessity

Introduction
Never before has humanity had such a wealth of material resources and technical and scientific expertise at its disposal. Overall, it has become rich and powerful beyond the imagination of anyone in former centuries. That it is any happier as a result has yet to be proved. Even so, there is no desire to turn back the clock: we are all aware that each new day brings with it ever more opportunities for personal and collective fulfillment.
At the same time, it is no longer possible to believe that this accumulation of power can go on forever - in just the same way, according to some unchanging dictate of technical progress - without eventually rebounding on itself and putting humanity's physical and moral survival at risk. With
each new day, the signs of potential catastrophe are emerging ever more clearly and worryingly. The only issues in doubt are which threats are the most immediate and which of the urgent problems should take priority. These threats and problems must be constantly borne in mind if we are to give ourselves a real chance of seeing today's promises come to fruition.

The current threats include
global warming and the disasters
