Forevergate: The Pernicious Persistence of the Russian Collusion Delusion

May 20th, 2019

The official investigation into Russian collusion is over, after three harrowing, nerve-wracking years. I kid, of course. After endless news cycles, and various non-stories and wild-goose chases disseminated by mainstream media, one would think the country could move on. Yet this hasn't been the case. It seems pretty straightforward: delusions about Russia continue because they serve empire.

Most serious people who have not had their brains parasitized by the ridiculous hand-wringing and caterwauling of mainstream media pundits understood Russiagate for what it was: a bunch of half-baked allegations against obviously corrupt yet incompetent stooges of the Trump campaign and administration, cobbled together to appear as some sinister, shadowy plot against America. That does not mean that Donald Trump is not a repugnant, amoral, serial liar who would do anything within his power to engage in damage control in regards to the behavior of his corrupt and incompetent lackeys, as well as himself. It simply means, in regards to collusion, there is no there, there.

Examine nearly any foundational element of the alleged Trump-Putin collusion fairy tale and it falls apart immediately.
When Donald Trump acts illegally, as he has in the past with various real estate scams, he does it out in the open, in full view. He does not seem to have the mental capacities to collude and conspire, he is simply a billionaire: he gives orders, even if often he does not have to state them openly, as Michael Cohen told us, and he gets what he wants. Partially this is why liberals vilify him so much, obviously: he has removed the curtains of empire to show how things are really run, how white supremacy and unchecked greed and corruption has always been at the core of US hegemony.

Moreover, I do not see anyone even in alternative media circles asking about Russia's side of the equation. Would Vladimir Putin look at the pro-con, cost-benefit analysis of conspiring with a clown such as Trump and determine, let's do this? I would say probably not. What would the endgame be? Would Trump pull out of NATO, would Trump give his tacit approval of the transfer of Crimea, or even attempt to thaw relations concerning Ukraine? Hell, no. These are liberal fantasies: demented, fevered nightmares of the national security state falling apart at the hands of an ignoramus. US imperial rule does not allow for any significant aberrations in foreign policy, regardless of who is president.

To some degree, US imperial policy is on rails, and who is in charge simply doesn't matter. Presidents are puppets, figureheads. Putin must understand this on some level. Although to an extent post-Soviet Russia has been seeking approval from the West, and forming tacit alignments with such basket cases as Orban's Hungary, as well as becoming more engaged with other xenophobic nationalist-populists in Europe, the Kremlin simply does not vitally need US approval. It may, however, broach certain topics in specific policy areas where overlapping interests are well-established.

The costs of Russia getting caught by actually concretely, materially, and intellectually conspiring with any incoming US administration (by setting the entire US on wild Neo-McCarthyite witch-hunts and restarting a New Cold War, which is essentially what has happened anyways without any collusion) would vastly outweigh the benefits.

I mean, come on, the Steele document, Wikileaks being pawns of the Russians, a handful of Facebook ads having any significant effect on election results? It's frankly ridiculous that these fabricated fairy tales could send any rational group of people into an investigative furor. It's even more absurd considering, frankly, that probably lots of corporate leaders, Democratic "elite" consultants, spooks at Langley, national security "experts", and political operatives were taking a look at this 3rd-rate paperback fiction before any investigation was launched, and deciding, yes, let's go with this.

What it does seem to mean, and what hardly anyone wants to admit, is that this steaming pile of horseshit was, in fact, concocted by our intelligence agencies (and possibly at the behest of the Clintons' networks within the national security state to avert eyes from the Clinton Foundation scandal) to help to distract, divide, and hypnotize the public. This is what is called a disinformation campaign/psychological operation, a "psy-op".

Every media story devoted to the Russiagate hoax takes away from any and all of the failed policies and spinelessness of the Democrats. It also benefits conservatives and elite corporate interests as well, because there is less time to cover things like global warming, militarism, increasing income inequality, Trump's deregulations which have gutted federal agencies, etc.

The hypocrisy is astounding, and the analysis is completely ahistorical, considering the nefarious meddling, subterfuge, coups, and death the US has doled out for decades by interfering in overseas elections. Not to mention the assassinations, funding death squads, the massacres and genocides committed in the wake of US covert foreign policy. There is no existent US democracy to interfere in.

If you're biting on the "Russian hackers" and "Russian spies" nonsense, well, there's not much hope for you either. It is well within the possibilities of many intelligence agencies to fake an attack or make digital signatures appear to be coming from other countries. As for whether any of these so-called Russian "agents" actually has any significant influence in the Kremlin hierarchy, it is pure speculation. From an examination of the Mueller report, which is all we can do with all the redacted evidence, it appears many of these shadowy Russian figures are marginal figures, and/or are simply sponges and spivs vying for a wee bit of influence in Moscow, rather than member of some deep-cover GRU operation.

The vast majority of citizens understand that Hillary Clinton lost because of her hubris, her frigid personality, and, most obviously, her stupidity as she failed to campaign in key battleground states.

Further, if we are asking questions as to what countries influence our elections, the obvious answers would have to be NATO allies and Israel. Even Bill Clinton faced charges of election subterfuge due to his supposed backing from Chinese money.

Hands down, you can pretty much guarantee that Cambridge Analytica, Facebook's and Youtube's own algorithms which favor sensationalist and hateful content, and probably a host of other unknown shady corporations influenced the election far more than Russia could have. I can guarantee that Russiagate has been the biggest boon for cybersecurity, surveillance, and counter-terror corporations since 9/11.

Another point is the issue of "back-channels" from the Trump campaign and transition teams to the Putin administration. As if nearly every leader of a sovereign nation does not establish back-channels with other allies and enemies (see: Nixon to China, among many examples), simply because national leaders have enemies within their own government who will leak or sabotage any efforts at dialogue, whether they are corrupt or not.

How naïve does one have to be to recoil in shock at the notion that the most powerful governments in the world establish diplomatic back-channels with shady, corrupt officials and spies?

If you want to open the book on political corruption, you will probably find every member of Congress, every high-level member in State and Defense, every Cabinet member and their top-tier underlings, every senior financial person at Treasury and the Fed have conflicts of interests if they are not openly taking bribes, stock buybacks, or whizzing in and out of corporate positions (the "revolving door" phenomenon) to deregulate and consult for the industries which stand to benefit from the wanton dismemberment of our regulatory agencies.

The elites are not honest in public, but I'd assume most of them are self-aware enough to realize what they are doing occurs in a legal gray area, if not being outright criminal. The liberal and some "never Trump" and "principled" conservative media, however, cannot even be bothered to reflect on whose interests are being served by pandering to the national security state. These mainstream journalists have managed to rehabilitate the image of our abhorrent domestic and foreign security and intelligence agencies.

When your beliefs align with those who support US Empire, you might want to critically question them. There was absolutely no "objective" reporting (an abstract fantasy these hacks hang their hats on) regarding alleged election interference in mainstream sources. What almost certainly happened was that key figures in DC, whether politicians, technocrats, or intelligence assets or agents fed running lies to their puppet mouthpieces such as The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, etc.

Elite interests threw chum in the water and watched as the mainstream journalist feeding frenzy ensued. Not only did they take the bait hook, line, and sinker; there were no internal checks among news agencies about the origins of the hogwash theories they disseminated.

If one hazards to take a best guess as to where this all originated, it's as simple as three letters: C-I-A. US intelligence involvement in concocting the collusion yarn is conspicuously absent in media analysis, a telling omission.

The psychology of this nonsense is interesting insofar as it reveals deep-rooted liberal tendencies: rather than engaging in self-reflection as to the reasons of Clinton's loss, Trump's victory can only be an aberration. In this dream-world impeachment is always on the horizon, and America can undergo a return to normalcy by replacing Trump with a "rational", neoliberal democratic centrist.

The denialism of mainstream liberals knows no bounds and we should not be hesitant to laugh at the ridiculousness of allegations of Russian hacking and collusion. What might also be helpful is to remind the chattering classes that their thoughts are not their own. By examining the historical and material forces at play, one is forced to confront the facts that only very elite interests in the military-industrial complex could be responsible for stringing along our compliant media for so long.

Again, every multinational corporation, every authoritarian government agency, every arms dealer, fossil fuel emitter, financial speculator, agribusiness corporation, medical and insurance company, as well as the FBI, CIA, and our vast imperial apparatus stood to benefit as mainstream media devoted so much time, energy, and bandwidth towards such a ridiculous, divisive, and painfully obvious intelligence disinformation ploy.

That, in fact, may have been the point, and the initial culprits in the US security state may never be found. Nor does the Russiagate hoax require any specific people directing the media. The deviousness of our system is that it does not need individual conspirators. To paraphrase Gore Vidal: "There is no need for the elite to conspire. They all think the same." The system vomits forth new idiotic post-truth narratives on both liberal and conservative sides to sooth frayed nerves by offering palliatives to those frightened by resurgent racist and nationalist tendencies, and to satiate a public beholden to spectacle. Rather than trying to untangle the contradictions and travesties inherent to capitalism and empire, any fairy tale will do. No one can seem to figure out who is responsible for our nation's slow collapse, and there can't be a public reckoning for whoever was disseminating this collusion nonsense either, because the national security state is cowardly and faceless. Empire and capitalism cannot bear to have their true faces unmasked.

The faceless people behind the scenes are not heroic American spy-warriors or clever, righteous assassins we see portrayed in popular TV, movies, video games, etc. Nor does any real power reside in the "Russian hacker", a classic case of US projection (Stuxnet anyone?). What the stereotype does play into is a racist and absurd caricature of seedy Slavic programmers deviously plotting to destroy democracy in America from troll-farms in St. Petersburg.

The real faceless people of today are khaki-wearing doofuses overseeing server farms in Northern Virginia, the uniformed killers wandering the corridors of the Pentagon E-ring whose schemes lead to genocide abroad, free market-worshipping chauvinist tech-bros in Silicon Valley constructing our ever-surveilled digital hellscape who mine the need for human connection and community for profit, diplomat dilettantes plotting coups in US embassies which increasingly resemble bunkers, the stuffed-suit lawyers and financial parasites who plunder whole continents and construct tax havens for the super-rich, and the anonymous shareholders, CEOs, and owners of nesting-doll conglomerates which oversee trillions of dollars stolen from workers and direct trillions more from public treasuries.

Russiagate will continue on to provide cover for ruling class criminality. It functions in US political discourse to evade the examination of capital's true nature, to lead down blind alleyways in the long tradition of America's "paranoid style". As the climate crisis intensifies, as the rising tides of authoritarianism destroy lives and sap energy from ordinary workers and citizens, the simulation of democracy must be maintained at all costs. What better way than for the elites to distract and confuse the public, remain in the shadows, and feign responsibility for their crimes against the planet and humanity than to foment unrest between the two leading nuclear powers, simultaneously enrage and anesthetize the public with a feel-good story about a former FBI director taking down a President, and shift away public attention from the imperial paroxysms of violence erupting all over the globe?

In other words, you did not read the Mueller report. Your points about US imperialism are spot on. But your points about the connections between Trump and Russia are spot off.

so you "read" the Mueller report?

Precisely how did *Russia* (i.e. the nation-state named the Russian Federation or any of its subject agencies) cause Hillary Clinton to lose the vote on November 8th 2016?

Please explain, immediately and in full detail with specific references.

RE: Mueller report.

Specifically (please cite the EXACT passages and page numbers) where in Mueller's report, is any
"connection"

between "Trump and Russia" mentioned,

and furthermore how did that specific
"connection"
affect the outcome of either the popular or electoral votes cast by U.S. citizens on November 8th 2016?

Why Russiagate Will Never Go Away 28.May.2019 17:41

author: Rob Urie

Given that Russia's economy today is smaller than [the U.S. State of California's as well as] Italy's and its military budget wouldn't buy a toilet seat or hammer in the U.S. military procurement system, the question of why Russia would seem a great mystery outside of history. And left unstated is that the U.S. defense industry needs enemies to survive. 'Radical Islam,' an invention of oil and gas industry flacks that turned out to be serviceable for marketing Tomahawk missiles and stealth fighter jets as well, lost some of its luster when ISIS and Al Qaeda came over to 'our side.' And humanitarian intervention ain't what it used to be with Libya reduced to rubble and open-air slave markets now dotting the landscape.

Finally, apologists for Russiagate claim that it has been nowhere near as dangerous as WMD lies. Let's see: a cadre of national security officials spent two-and-one-half years claiming that it has secret evidence that the President of the U.S. colluded with the leader of a foreign government to assume power and then use his office for the benefit of that foreign leader. Following, the domestic press claimed that the U.S. 'was under attack' and 'was at war' with this foreign power. Meanwhile, the U.S. went about arming anti-Russian militias on Russia's border while unilaterally abrogating a short-and-intermediate range nuclear weapons treaty after publicly announcing that it was 'modernizing' its stockpile of short-and-intermediate-range nuclear weapons.

As Mueller Finds No Collusion, Did Press Overhype Russiagate? 28.May.2019 17:44

Democracy Now!

AMY GOODMAN: Glenn Greenwald?

GLENN GREENWALD: Well, let me just say a couple of things. First of all, prior to Bob Mueller's appointment, I was calling for a full-scale investigation in which all of the facts at the conclusion of the investigation would be publicly revealed, so that we would stop having to rely on media leaks that the CIA and the NSA and the FBI were engineering and manipulating and lying to us, as we now know, so that we could see the full picture. So I continue to believe that we should see the full Mueller report. I support that completely.

Secondly, let me say, as well, that I believe that Donald Trump is one of the most corrupt people ever to occupy the White House. I am certain that he's guilty of all kinds of crimes—war crimes as president, financial crimes as a business person. One of the reason why those of us who were so angry about this obsession on Russia and collusion, aside from the fact that it was so dangerous to ratchet up tensions between two nuclear-armed powers this way instead of trying to forge a peace between these two countries, is precisely because it took the oxygen away from all of the things that the Trump administration is doing that is so damaging, in lieu of this idiotic, moronic, Tom Clancy-type espionage thriller, where we were talking about Putin blackmailing Donald Trump with pee-pee tapes and Donald Trump being a Russian agent since 1987, which was a cover story that was on New York magazine, that Chris Hayes put on MSNBC. Just all kinds of moronic conspiracies, that we love to mock other countries' medias for circulating and disseminating, drowned out our airwaves and our discourse for three years, preventing us from focusing on the real, substantive damage that the Trump administration is doing and that Donald Trump's corruption entails.

But the reality is, the media chose to focus on this. Everybody knows this. David Cay Johnston was on your show, Amy, a week ago, and he said, "Donald Trump, I believe, is a Russian agent." We now have a full-scale, 20-month investigation by somebody that everybody agreed was a man of great integrity who would get to the bottom of all of this, who had full subpoena power. And David keeps trying to imply, which is totally false, that all that Mueller said was, "Oh, it just doesn't rise to the level of criminality." That is not what he said. He said, after 20 months of a full-scale investigation—which, by the way, included hours of interrogating Donald Trump Jr. before Congress, all of the transcripts of which were made available to Mueller, which he could have prosecuted Trump Jr. on for perjury and obstruction had Donald Trump Jr. lied about anything, but he chose not to. He said, "After reviewing all of this evidence, I am concluding that this did not happen," not that it doesn't rise to the level where I can criminally prosecute. He's saying there was no collusion.

The game is over, and it's time to be honest about it. And the more we try to cling to this and invent new—you know what it reminds me of? In 2003, when the neocons finally had to face the truth that there were no WMDs, that they had fabricated that, that the media had misled millions of people around the world for years, and they started saying, "Um, maybe Saddam hid them in Syria. Maybe they're buried in places we just haven't looked yet." It's time to face the truth. The media got this story wrong. They obsessed on this for three years, and all this time there was no evidence for it. It was just a conspiracy theory. Rachel Maddow, the most influential liberal TV host in the country, every single night misled millions of liberals into believing something that was totally false, and there will be no media consequences for it. And that is extremely grave and serious, no matter how much is true about how corrupt Donald Trump is in his financial dealings or any of the other stuff that people are now trying to deflect our attention onto.

A Russiagate Requiem 28.May.2019 17:46

April 2nd, 2019

So the Mueller report is finally in, and it appears that hundreds of millions of Americans have, once again, been woefully bamboozled. Weird, how this just keeps on happening. At this point, Americans have to be the most frequently woefully bamboozled people in the entire history of woeful bamboozlement. If you didn't know better, you'd think we were all a bunch of hopelessly credulous imbeciles that you could con into believing almost anything, or that our brains had been bombarded with so much propaganda from the time we were born that we couldn't really even think anymore.

That's right, as I'm sure you're aware by now, it turns out President Donald Trump, a pompous former reality TV star who can barely string three sentences together without totally losing his train of thought and barking like an elephant seal, is not, in fact, a secret agent conspiring with the Russian intelligence services to destroy the fabric of Western democracy. After two long years of bug-eyed hysteria, Inspector Mueller came up with squat. Zip. Zero. Nichts. Nada. Or, all right, he indicted a bunch of Russians that will never see the inside of a courtroom, and a few of Trump's professional sleazebags for lying and assorted other sleazebag activities (so I guess that was worth the $25 million of taxpayers' money that was spent on this circus).
Notwithstanding those historic accomplishments, the entire Mueller investigation now appears to have been another wild goose chase (like the "search" for those non-existent WMDs that we invaded and destabilized the Middle East and murdered hundreds of thousands of people pretending to conduct in 2003). Paranoid collusion-obsessives will continue to obsess about redactions and cover-ups, but the long and short of the matter is, there will be no perp walks for any of the Trumps. No treason tribunals. No televised hangings. No detachment of Secret Service agents marching Hillary into the White House.

The jig, as they say, is up.

But let's try to look on the bright side, shall we? Disgraceful as this Russiagate fiasco has been, at least it was all just an honest mistake, and not any kind of plot, or conspiracy, or anything as disturbing as that. It's not like the majority of the corporate media perpetrated a massive, coordinated, intelligence agency-initiated psyop on the Western public for two and half years. No, they just "got it wrong," again ... like they did with those Iraqi WMDs.

The media and the Mueller report 28.May.2019 17:47

author: Barry Grey

27 March 2019

The report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller is a political debacle for the Democratic Party and the corporate media. Day after day, the bulk of the establishment press, led by the New York Times, pumped out unsubstantiated claims and outright lies accusing Russia of subverting the 2016 election and branding Trump as an agent of Putin.

Mueller's report, after a sprawling investigation lasting nearly two years, has exposed the entire anti-Russia narrative as a hoax, perpetrated on the American people in pursuit of reactionary political ends. Journalist Matt Taibbi published an article on Saturday headlined "It's official: Russiagate is this generation's WMD," in which he wrote: "The Iraq war faceplant damaged the reputation of the press. Russiagate just destroyed it... As a purely journalistic failure, however, WMD was a pimple compared to Russiagate."

Those responsible—from the editorial offices of the major media outlets to the decision-makers in the Democratic Party—served as conduits fro the propaganda of factions of the CIA, the NSA and the FBI. They opposed Trump and sought either to remove him or politically cripple him on the grounds that he was insufficiently belligerent toward Russia and too reluctant to escalate military action in Syria and elsewhere.

The anti-Russia campaign revived the witch-hunting methods of the McCarthyite red scare. Its aim was threefold: first, to create an atmosphere of hysteria to justify preparations for war against nuclear-armed Russia; second, to channel the mass popular opposition to Trump in a right-wing, pro-war direction; and, third, to create a pretext for internet censorship and other attacks on democratic rights.
It was part of a broader, international anti-Russia witch hunt, including the fabricated allegation that Putin was behind the poisoning of Russian expatriate Sergei Skripal and his daughter in England.

The cast of characters instrumental in perpetrating this fraud includes Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee; his counterpart in the Senate, the billionaire tech mogul Mark Warner; the "liberal" MSNBC pundit Rachael Maddow; late-night TV hosts such as Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers; and James Bennet, editorial page editor of the Times, whose father, Douglas Bennet, ran the CIA-backed US Agency for International Development under President Carter.

The director of national intelligence under Obama, James Clapper, who lied to Congress about NSA domestic spying, and Obama's CIA director, John Brennan, who defended CIA torture programs and lied to Congress about CIA hacking of Senate Intelligence Committee computers, have been omnipresent on the airwaves denouncing Trump as a Russian stooge.

The Democrats made a decision—beginning with the election campaign of the favored candidate of Wall Street and the CIA, Hillary Clinton—that they would not oppose Trump on his anti-working-class social policy or his authoritarian hostility to democratic rights and promotion of anti-immigrant racism, but on issues of imperialist foreign policy.

An indication of the priorities of the establishment media is given in a survey by the Tyndall Report on stories covered by the broadcast network evening news programs in 2018. Between ABC, CBS and NBC, the "Russian election meddling probe" was reported nearly twice as many times as Trump's detention (and abuse) of migrant children, and nearly three times as often as fatal police shootings in the US.

Taken together, Russiagate at number two and the top reported story, the #MeToo Justice Kavanaugh confirmation battle, were reported four times more frequently than the Gestapo-like treatment of immigrant children.

The mechanism by which the mainstream media promoted Russiagate was to publish "news" articles composed of assertions by national security officials and experts, unusually anonymous, without any factual substantiation of their claims. The same intelligence agencies that dragged the American people into the illegal invasion of Iraq, which cost hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives and thousands of American ones, on the basis of the Big Lie of Iraqi "weapons of mass destruction," were presented as unassailable sources of truth.

The Democratic Party based its opposition to Trump on this right-wing campaign, while at the same time collaborating with the White House in passing near-record military budgets and opposing any popular mobilization against tax cuts for the rich or the persecution and mass imprisonment of immigrants. It combined anti-Russia hysteria with the #MeToo witch hunt, aimed at promoting racial and gender politics to divide the working class, undermine core democratic principles such as the presumption of innocence and due process, and consolidate support for imperialist war within privileged layers of the upper-middle class.

The Mueller report has left the Democratic Party in shambles. Its effort to either remove Trump or force him to adopt a more belligerent policy toward Russia have resulted only in strengthening the Trump administration and the Republicans. The Democrats' response, signaled by an editorial in Monday's New York Times that recycles all the lies about Russian "meddling" and "sowing discord," will be to double down on its anti-Russia campaign and lurch even further to the right.

The World Socialist Web Site has from the outset opposed and exposed the Russiagate fraud. It has explained repeatedly the necessity for the working class to reject both big business parties and their politics of "palace coup" and conduct a struggle against Trump on the basis of an independent revolutionary mobilization against capitalism.

In the name of fighting Russian-inspired "fake news" and upholding "authoritative media" against those that oppose the policies of the government, the American state has enlisted the internet and tech giants to marginalize and censor left-wing publications, first and foremost the WSWS. This has gone hand in hand with the ongoing persecution of Julian Assange and, just this month, the re-imprisonment of Chelsea Manning, the spearhead of a frontal attack on free speech.

The outcome of the Democrats' debacle, however, has demonstrated that it was precisely the "authoritative" media that has been lying through its teeth, while the WSWS's exposure of the reactionary character of every faction of the ruling class has been confirmed.

Obstructiongate! 28.May.2019 17:49

author: C. J. Hopkins

April 25th, 2019

I owe the corporate media an apology. For the last few years, I've been writing all these essays explaining how they were perpetrating an enormous psyop on the American public ... a psyop designed to convince the public that Donald Trump "colluded" with Russia to steal the presidency from Hillary Clinton. Up until a few days ago, I would have sworn that they had published literally thousands of articles and editorials, and broadcast countless TV segments, more or less accusing him of treason, and being a "Russian intelligence asset," and other ridiculous stuff like that. Also, and I'm still not sure how this happened, I somehow got the idea in my head that the investigation that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was meticulously conducting had something to do with Donald Trump conspiring or "colluding" with Russia, or being some kind of "Manchurian president," or being blackmailed by Putin with a pee-tape, or something.

In any event, the publication of the Mueller report has cleared things up for me. I get it now. The investigation was never about Trump colluding with Russia. It was always about Trump obstructing the investigation of the collusion with Russia that the investigation was not about. Mueller was never looking for collusion. It was not his job to look for collusion. His job was to look for obstruction of his investigation of alleged obstruction of his investigation of non-collusion, which he found, and detailed at length in his report, and which qualifies as an impeachable offense.
Not that he proved that there was no collusion! On the contrary, as professional hermeneuticists have been repeatedly pointing out on Twitter, given that Mueller wasn't looking for collusion, and that collusion could never have been legally established, and isn't even a legal term, Mueller's failure to find any actual evidence of collusion is evidence of collusion, notwithstanding the fact that he couldn't prove it, and wasn't even looking for it, except to the extent it allowed him to establish a case for the obstruction he was actually investigating.

In other words, his investigation was launched in order to investigate the obstruction of his investigation. And, on those terms, it was a huge success. The fact that it didn't prove "collusion" means nothing — that's just a straw man argument that Trump and his Russian handlers make. The goal all along was to prove that Trump obstructed an investigation of his obstruction of that investigation, not that he was "colluding" with Putin, or any of the other paranoid nonsense that the corporate media were forced to report on, once an investigation into his obstruction of the investigation was launched.

See, and this is why I owe the media an apology. All those thousands of hysterical articles, editorials, and TV segments accusing Donald Trump of treason, and of literally being a Russian agent, and probably Putin's homosexual lover, were not just ridiculous propaganda. The corporate media were not engaged in a concerted campaign to convince the public that Trump conspired with a foreign adversary to brainwash millions of African Americans into refusing to vote for Hillary Clinton with some emails and a handful of Facebook posts. No, the media were simply covering the story of his obstruction of the investigation of the made-up facts the intelligence agencies got them to relentlessly disseminate to generate the appearance of a story, which, once it was out there, had to be reported on, regardless of how it came into being, or whose nefarious purposes it served.

Moreover, regardless of whether Mueller did or did not establish obstruction (or attempted obstruction, which is just as impeachable) of his non-investigation of collusion, he absolutely established that Russia attacked us by brainwashing all those African Americans who were definitely going to vote for Clinton until they saw those divisive Facebook ads and those DNC emails that Putin personally ordered Trump to order Paul Manafort to personally deliver to Julian Assange, who was hunkered down in the Ecuadorean embassy poking holes in King-size condoms, abusing his cat, and smearing invisible poo all over the walls of his kitchen.

Now, these are all indisputable facts, which Mueller establishes in his report by referencing the repeated assertions of a consensus of U.S. intelligence agencies, and the corporate media's relentless repetition of those agencies' assertions, and the feeling a lot of people have that they must be factual to some extent, given how often they have been repeated, and referenced, and authoritatively asserted, and how familiar they sound when they hear them, again. The fact that there exists no evidence whatsoever of any "Russian attack," and that all we're actually talking about is the publication of a bunch of emails that DNC members actually wrote, and some ridiculous social media posts, should not in any way detract from the fact that the Russians launched a totally devastating, virtually Pearl Harbor-scale attack on the fabric of American democracy, which Trump obstructed an investigation of, or attempted to obstruct an investigation of, or conspired to attempt to obstruct an investigation of obstruction of.

Or whatever. The point is, now they've got him! His justice obstructing days are numbered! Break out the pussyhats and vuvuzelas, because next stop is Impeachment City! So what if he's not a Russian agent and didn't conspire or collude with anyone? He got elected without permission, and insulted a lot of powerful people, and ... well, who cares what they impeach him for, as long as they impeach him for something!

They kind of have to do it, at this point, don't they? They just spent most of the last three years rolling out an official narrative in which the Russians are running around attacking democracy, poisoning ducks with Novichok perfume, fomenting populist uprisings in France, and just generally being the evil enemies that the Islamic terrorists used to be, before they turned into freedom fighters and helped us try to take over Syria.

If the Democrats don't impeach Donald Trump, that official narrative might fall apart. Liberals might have to face the fact that Americans elected Donald Trump president, not because they were brainwashed by Russians, or had any illusions about what a thuggish, self-aggrandizing buffoon he is, but because they were so disgusted with the neoliberal Washington establishment, and the global capitalist elites that own it, that they leapt at the chance to vote against it, and probably would have elected anyone who promised to even marginally disrupt it ... but there I go drifting off into my crazy conspiracist thinking again.

Anyway ... I'm really sorry about all that stuff I wrote about the corporate media. Rest assured, that won't happen again. Admittedly, I blew the Russiagate thing, but I promise to do better with Obstructiongate, or Tax-Returnsgate, or Whatevergate. It doesn't really matter what we call it, right? The important thing is to teach the masses what happens when they vote for unauthorized candidates. We're only halfway through that lesson. Stay tuned ... there's much, much more to come!

Glenn Greenwald (3/25/2019) discusses the "3 straight years" of 'Russia collusion' propaganda disseminated by U.S. corporate mass media sources, with direct connection and assistance from U.S. (CIA, NSA, FBI, Justice Department) intelligence sources.

Rachel Maddow "$10 million a year", a "huge corporate brand" who is a "celebrity" among liberals.

Video entertainment by Don Caron, a christian movie maker with a conservative lite agenda.

Yeah, yeah, "both sides", but he's pitching to the alternate left "radical crowd" without being honest about his right leaning politics.

Enjoy, but take with grain of salt.

If it's true (which it 1,000% is in the "Collusion Song" instance) and funny then it's effective parody.

Not like I think ^ that guy is the next George Carlin.

How many actors, artists, music performers and entertainers which you enjoy and partake-of-their-output have "right leaning" politics?

be HONEST, now.

Trump Derangement Syndrome: *NOT* merely a 'grain' of salt

@_ 02.Jun.2019 20:35

....

"How many actors, artists, music performers and entertainers which you enjoy and partake-of-their-output have "right leaning" politics?"

Speaking for myself, around about none, TTBOMK. And once their questionable politics are know, I drop them like a rock. Like most real left progressives.

Next question?

"_" sounds awfully defensive about this rather mild criticism/caution.

"once their questionable politics are know, I drop them like a rock." 02.Jun.2019 23:56

Lol

Why didn't you 'know' about their 'questionable politics' in advance, then?

Letting ideological blinders run even your entertainment life. Pathetic.

Did you ever try thinking for yourself?

"Why didn't you 'know' about their 'questionable politics' in advance, then? "

Usually because they lie about it. Either by omission or outright lying about who they are.

It's my understanding that tactic is quite common in local pdx resistance grifter circles.

Still sound awfully defensive....got a horse in this race?

Remember all that was said was "Enjoy, but take with grain of salt."

Then " _/lol" had a meltdown.

Yeah dude I don't give a **** what you think about what is posted here.

( merely pointed out that when you go around offering advice on "how to perceive" content, don't expect everyone to just follow you along. )

I can and will continue to think for myself. You on the other hand long ago relinquished control of your mind to Trump (who lives there rent-free and spurs-barbs all other of your waking actions) and other ideologues/ideologies.

Wondered how long before comments would get moderated... 03.Jun.2019 14:05

Comments have been going up instantly. Now they stopped, at least in this thread:

Let's see if it'll go up here...IOW, is the site modded? Or just that thread?

I see....
"What do they pay you cubicle laptop dudes, anyway? (whether by-the-hour or per-post) Not enough evidently. "

So you don't want readers to believe in the widely reported and well documented Russian interference and espionage into the USA's political affairs,

but YOU DO want them to believe anyone online who disagrees with you or mocks your tinfoil ridden comments is, what? An agent of the US government sent to troll Portland indymedia?

?????

Psst...it's okay, we both know you don't really believe in cubicle shills trolling Indymedia. Meaning it's quite likely you know very well Putin DID influence the American election and Trump is a foreign asset. Like so many so called "alternative" outlets/personalities--Glen Greenwald, Assange, Paul Joseph Watson--- have become....

.....

And thanks for confirming "_"/lol"/YOU are in fact the loon who runs this site. And yes, you totally melted down, lol forever.

( don't bet on it... )

until then continue to display and proffer your hip, wise knowledge to the social audience.

the

"espionage"

which occurred was undertaken not by 'Russian' entities but,
by U.S. / United Kingdom / Australian / other coalition force intelligence services with healthy doses of participation from the Obama Administration Department of Justice, Department of State (Hillary Clinton = Secretary of State), FBI, CIA, NSA et cetera.

George lays it all out here, really clearly and understandably.

He explains persons and roles of Joseph Mifsud, Arvinder Sambei and the odd approachment by Australian diplomat Alexander Downer; in addition to all of the diplomatic and intelligence operations he became entangled in.

And he references his official testimony before the U.S. Congress.

^ This is the **_well documented_** evidence.

"widely reported" ("Russian interference") was of course the corporate mass media in whom you apparently, place excessive amounts of credibility (which has been permanently shot to hell upon publication of Mueller's report).
