announcements - "what can we do?"
To be aware of all the problems facing the world can be empowering and liberating. Yet at times, this awareness seems a burden because with so many issues it can be difficult to know where to put one's energy. This page is meant to be a resource for all of us who want to know "what we can do", or "where can we help", or "how can I become more involved". Whether you want to attend a benefit or other event to become more educated or entertained, learn more about upcoming marches, demonstrations, or other actions, find reasons and ways to contact a government or corporate representative, join a collective which shares your interests, go to a local meeting for an organization, help out other members of the community, or to simply look for inspiration for your own ideas we hope that we will all be able to find that information here.

Portland Aug 4 Help Antifa Push Back Nazis
From the open publishing newswire: Resist Patriot Prayer: Violent Alt-Right Bigots Off Our Streets
Saturday August 4 at 11:30 AM
Tom McCall Waterfront Park Portland OR 97124
Patriot Prayer is bringing White Nationalists to Portland again. At their last event on June 30th they brought in out of state Alt Right celebrities and brawlers to create what was the most violent confrontation to date in Portland. It was a thinly veiled excuse to attack vulnerable communities and leftists. They want to send a send a message of intimidation to any and all people that oppose the fascist, totalitarian direction the US is currently headed in and swarming on progressive cities is part of that program. Patriot Prayer is bringing national Alt Right figures like Gavin McInnes and Alex Jones to our city. Our community must stand up and defend itself from Joey and his Alt Right goons.
History has shown that militant resistance is a necessary and important tool in the fight against fascism. We make no apologies for the use of force in keeping our communities safe from the scourge of right-wing violence. Make no mistake, these people are coming here with the intent to harm and threaten people. If you look at any of their forums they are filled with disturbing, Turner Diaries type fantasies of purges and cleansing the streets of those they seem undesirable. If you look at their year-long pattern of behavior there can be no confusion about their objectives. The genocidal ideas they espouse and their belligerent tactics should not be dignified with a debate. They need to be routed.

Joey Gibson and his crew of violent bigots unfortunately are once again calling for a rally in Portland which is without fail a pretext for assorted Alt Right bullies, Nazis, homophobes, and unsavory characters to gather in hopes of brutalizing the most vulnerable people they can find.
It is very important that antifascists keep up the pressure so that we can stop them once and for all.

Pitch a Tent highlights the diverse lived experience of unhoused and formerly unhoused people through music, testimony, interactive art and education. It calls attention to the cognitive dissonance present in city decisions that once a year allow for recreational camping along the 4.2 mile Grand Floral Parade route, while criminalizing the everyday efforts to survive of those who have no other choice but to live outside.

From the open publishing newswire: Reclaim and Celebrate Armistice Day
(aka Veterans Day) as a Day of Peace with Veterans For Peace Chapter 72 at Pioneer Courthouse Square @ 701 SW 6th Ave, Portland, OR 97205
Veterans For Peace has taken the lead in lifting up the original intention of November 11th—as a day for peace. As veterans, we know that a day that celebrates peace, not war, is the best way to honor the sacrifices of veterans. May Day Actions 2017
From the open publishing newswire: An anti-capitalist march is set to take place here on Monday May 1st. Open to the public, ALL are welcome except: police goons, Nazi/Alt-Right boot-lickers, and agent provocateurs. Meet-up is scheduled to take place at Shemanski Park in SW Portland at 1:00pm. This is a more radical march than the city-sanctioned permitted one which is scheduled for 12:00pm that day, same location.
Attendees of the anti-capitalist march are encouraged to wear all black and mask up. While the Portland Police Gestapo will likely provide friendly and courteous escort service for the permitted march (much as they did for the Women's March back in January), a wholly different response is expected for the more radical one. Police abuses and excesses are guaranteed. [...]
