They're bright and flashy and fun to watch. But there are many ugly sides to the public fireworks displays.
The document speaks for itself. Read it aloud this Independence Day, so that all may remember our ideals. (Unrealized though they may be.)
"Rhetoric is a poor substitute for action, and we have trusted only to rhetoric. If we are really to be a great nation, we must not merely talk; we must act big."
In their own words, some great Republicans share their true feelings...
in my mind. Haven't you noticed that since McCollister got off
free and clear for his sins ((remember the 10 Commandments: Thou
shalt not kill!)) there is suddenly a rash of increased of shoot-
ings by the pigs statewide.
And we all know what that means...
This is no joke. server 220.127.116.11 will port scan your system when you attempt to load the article: "Linking Iraq to 9/11"

Constitutional Democracy as a Protection against Internal Hostilities
So, the republicans and the christians think the invasion an occupation of Iraq might be ok? To some us here on Turtle Island we see this as yet another invasion to take the resources and destroy a people.
Now you'll understand where I got my IMC name from...
We are being betrayed. All of the major social players in our country are betraing us and if you think you found someone that is not, then you are seriously deluding yourself. Fascism is being implemented without a peep from anyone - rethuglicans, democraps, mass media whores - and we go on to watch tv as if nothing is happening... Check this out between commercials...
This Stinks of Karl Rove
Potential Salvador Option as a means to control Americans by the fascists.
wyden is not telling the real stor of gitmo
Yikes! Right in the middle of cartoons...comes this ad with a child asking where she should go if there is a terroist attack.
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, appears to be part of the 100 year old problem still plaguing America that forced T. Roosevelt out of retirement to head the Bull Moose Party in an unsucccessful bid for President for the good of the country.
I write about fallacies in the Western Union TV ad and comment on possible technological solutions.
It is very likely that the hour is late, that capitalism will soon perish. It will happen sooner or later and if it does happen sooner, we have to be prepared. We need to debate the principles of our coming revolution; the principles of socialism.
The late Ben Hecht tried to save the Jews of Europe from the Nazi onslaught. Sami Al-Arian is struggling to lift the cruel Israeli occupation off the backs of the Palestinians. Hecht was praised for his First Amendment efforts, while Al-Arian faces trial in Florida "for supporting terrorism!" A devout Muslim, he has been a leader in the Tampa, Florida community. Al-Arian has also been fired from his tenured teaching position at the U. of South Florida.
It wasn't the lie that we are winning the war in Iraq. It wasn't the lie that we are fighting international terrorism in Iraq. It was the lie that we are bringing liberty to Iraq that was Bush's whopper.
A police officer appears to have been justified in fatally shooting a 15-year-old boy who did not have a weapon, said Doug Harcleroad, the Lane County district attorney.
Recent repots suggest that the US casualty count is ALREADT close to 9,000, no wiaint five, ten years. The discepancy arises from the Pentagon's decision NOT to report amongst the dead those poor US kids who died in hospital, or en route, of wounds sustained in battle. If I know this, why doesn't the "news" media ... ? To the Streets?
Today (Tues. 6/28) the Senate Finance Committee decided NOT to vote on CAFTA because they don't have the votes. It seems that Bush and his thugs haven't found the thumb screws to turn on Big Sugar to get them to give in on this one. It is sooooo disempowering to know that this huge industry is holding back CAFTA...while they care nothing for AIDS patients, sweatshop workers or the thousands of US workers who will lose their jobs to outsourcing...but that's Politics right? Fact is, though, that if Ron Wyden would just vote against it, our lives would be a lot easier.
Americans are Suckers!!!
Has anyone noticed that in the fog of lies about Iraq, that the
only person who has really told the TRUTH is Saddam!!!!
In spite of an unsurprising acquittal by a mostly white jury today, Scott McCollister knows in his dark, toxic heart that he is GUILTY. He shot and killed an unarmed, 90 lb woman to death, on the streets of Portland, after stopping her car because a black person was driving. He lied to a grand jury, and then to this jury. And star-crazed idiots from the suburbs let him off the hook. The rest of us, however, do not.
Right now Bush is telling us that the war in Iraq is the war on terrorism. Will this lie still fly?
Pakistan is a country where Lenin's famous phrase "socialism or barbarism" rings absolutely true. The present situation in Pakistan is characterized by fundamental instability. From this instability flow social and class conflicts, which could move Pakistan to the top of the world political agenda in the coming years.
Everybody else is doing it, so why can't we?
Portland's two main sources of toxic waste (The Oregonian & Tribune) have recently been locked into a heated competition to see who can print the most sensational headlines and ignorant stories about meth abuse in our city.
Finally fed up, I took the time to debunk the premise of the Tribune's most recent front page story on this subject.
Be fair. Send people from families who got out of it last time..

A look at the wondrous wonders of the mind
With Republicans admitting that the White House isn't governing?just campaigning?we need to face the truth: We have a virtual government, a virtual opposition, virtual citizens and, in the end, a virtual democracy. Our problems, though?war, poverty, AIDS, global warming, etc.?are all too real. ------------
The country of Venezuela is a startling paradox of immense suffering and extreme wealth. According to a private Caracas-based polling company, Datanalisis, over 58% of the 25 million people in Venezuela live on less than $253 (Cdn) a month. The level of poverty becomes all the more damning when factoring in that Venezuela is also the world's fourth largest oil exporter. This glaring contradiction remained unchallenged until the election of Hugo Chavez as Venezuelan President.
The decline of America can be seen in many places, tennis is one of them. At the French Open as well as at Wimbledon, Russian female tennis players are dominating the sport. What has happenned to American tennis?
Take a quick survey to see if you are effecting to world around you.
Eugenics is about ridding the world of undesirable human beings. It was practiced by the Nazis and before that, it was the cure for future social ills for many so called progressives in the West. What they did not know was that they, the judges of the unfit, were themselves one of the worst social ills of modern times.
Abe Foxman is a windbag! His organization, the ADL, got caught, back in the 90s, with its pants down, spying on political groups. It was the shameless Foxman, too, who was exposed, taking $250,000 in donations for his organization from sleazy Marc Rich, while working to get him a presidential pardon. Now, Foxman is laboring to get the U.S. into an unnecessary war with Iran, while attacking the U.S. Naval Academy for its noontime prayer session!
Behind all the optimistic talk about the health of world capitalism from Bush, Blair etc, the more serious analysts are worried. In its semi-annual report, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), representing the richest 26 countries in the world, announced that it is cutting its forecasts for all leading economies. The OECD also forecast that the US current account deficit would continue to rise, hitting nearly $900 billion or 6.7% of US GDP in 2006.

if the war is over, what are we doing in iraq
A social analysis of how AIDS' manmade nature was black'd out in favor of accomplice.
A liberal big-government majority on US Supreme Court has handed governments at all levels the power to steal homes from people simply by declaring that it has other uses in mind that could generate higher property taxes or more jobs. The ruling, a goldmine for developers and powerful economic interests, is simply a license for the rich to steal from the poor. ------------------
Two questions and some comments.
Seafood companies to be demolished for construction of an $8 million private boat marina.
Hmmm, seems like an employer would be a better economic choice.
To state that the US beef supply is completely safe is disingenuous.
I respond to a T.O. forum thread on depressions and say although we've had a series of recessions by no means is there going to be a depression.
Norm, turned "good cop" is promoting his book about it at Powells tonight...
Does HAARP affect our dreams and other things?
I do not know what is worse: the fascist right who murder and torture or the pseudo "left' who steal and murder
Just let them know what you think of the wh saying liberals (57% of americans) want the troops to die.
Let's get this over with quickly so we can get down to the business of ending the war and dumping Bushco
One of the unsung heroes of the opposition to the Iraqi War is Ann Wright. Rather than support the war, she resigned her position with the State Dept. on March 19, 2003. Ms. Wright, a career diplomat for over 16 years, who had also served in the military, believes the Downing Street Memos have plenty of ammunition in them to support impeachment proceeding against President George W. Bush and criminal charges against others in his administration.
For those who might remember back in the 1980's when Russia tried invading Afghanistan and had to fight the Mujahedeen?
With the public increasingly opposed to continued war and occupation in Iraq, the worthies in Congress who put American troops there in the first place and who can't figure out how to get them out now are resorting to a tried and true diversionary tactic: The Flag Protection Amendment. What's next? An amendment banning pie throwing?
Peak Oil is upon us.
