Spying Techniques 101
All this talk about the U.S. government spying on Americans, secret CIA prisons, informants, etc., has me thinking people need to know more about spying. Spying is actually a licensed industry. I did private detective work in the late 1990's-2000, and it was an eye opening experience. I learned if you feel you are being followed, SLOW DOWN. It is almost impossible to follow a car going noticeably slow without raising suspicion...

BAND CARS: NOT FIRES
Listening to a public radio station in Seattle, the local weather forecast mentions weather "inversion," where cold air meets warmer air, causing the ground to be smothered in fog. This according to the radio announcement will create "stale" air of unhealthy quality, in lower elevations. But we are reassured that this will only last a few days, until the blanket of fog has uplifted from the region. With the pollution trapped a midst an urban corridor along the lower plains between the Olympics and the Cascades, were in for a heavy dose of our own ooze of toxins.

Senator James Inhofe: Top Terrorist Threat to Planet Earth
"With all of the hysteria, all of the fear, all of the phony science, could it be that man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people? It sure sounds like it." Senator James Inhofe

From humble beginnings as Tulsa mayor and a small business man, Senator James Inhofe has morphed into one of the most dangerous neocons and right wing extremists of our time. On the front lines of Bush's war against civil liberties, peace, and the environment, Inhofe is leading the drive to plunge the planet into chaos and destruction for the glory and profits of the military megamachines and transnational corporations. Behind the flattering self-portrait Inhofe paints in his autobiography lies a profoundly ignorant, corrupt demagogue and power-mongering shill for Bush, the war against Iraq, and global corporate plunder. Online news magazine, Slate, wrote that Inhofe is "widely considered one of the dumbest members of Congress," but should have added he is also one of the most dangerous.

"Honkeys Go Home"
While at SCRAP a few days ago I got word that someone had graffitied "honkeys go home" on the building. Of course this was no where to be found when I heard about it because it had already been taken care of, covered up. I guess so as not to disturb or make anyone feel guilty about something they just can't do anything about.

The next day I'm at the no WTO protest and people are carrying signs and saying chants equating globalization with colonialization, quite ready and interested in talking more about the issue. But it seems that whenever gentrification in Portland comes up, people get quiet if not completely silent. And I wonder why is it so much easier for white people to focus on the WTO? Fighting the WTO and globalization can only be more challenging than fighting gentrification in our own town. And racism is just as significant a factor in global capitalist oppression as it is in the local kind. And we white people are just as much participants, however reluctant or resistant, in the broad processes of globalization as with gentrification.
