Call to Action: Follow-up to Wyden sit-ins!
It seems natural that in the March 19th protest rally in Portland, which was one of the largest in the nation, was followed up by two acts of civil disobedience, also the largest in the nation. But let's not stop here! On every 20th of every month, we should continue to occupy Senator Wyden's office and use the downtime to make sure every month more and more people are involved in the action.

Biofuel and Genocide
The biofuels movement is propelled by the powerful myth of progress; the myth that with the right technology, the right machines, the right fuel, we can go on living as we currently live. The myth of progress represents horrible misunderstanding of our past, and it equally misunderstands the future. Rather than leading to an age of renewable fuel, the biofuel movement is more likely to be the seed of a global scale genocide.

What has Sen. Russ Feingold been smoking?
"It's the reality of a situation like this that when you have a large troop presence that it has the tendency to fuel the insurgency because they can make the incorrect and unfair claim that somehow the United States is here to occupy this country, which of course is not true," Feingold said.

Hey, General Assembly of MD: ”Reverse Deregulation!”
State House, Annapolis, MD Most Marylanders can expect their electric bills to go up by $743 a year-a 74 % increase! In 1999, the legislature deregulated the industry. In a sweetheart deal, BGE was absorbed by Constellation Energy and required to begin buying its electricity on the open market. Meanwhile, BGE's electric-generating assets, originally paid for by the people, were turned over to Constellation in "a cash-free shuffle." The ratepayers are now being asked to pay again!

Homeland Security Going Broke?
Numerous contractors, like Boeing, are pulling their investments out of the government’s hands and putting their money in a more useful place. As the government spends another 72 billion dollars in Iraq and Afghanistan, we see yet more money being thrown into a void with no return. It seems like principal investors in the government’s programs are finally beginning to understand that following the federal government is the road to ruins.

Sunshine at Last?
Sunday, here in Portland, the sun showed its face with no hint of shyness for the first time in months. No hide-and-seek with the clouds, just pure, glorious, unadulterated sunshine. On such a day you expect life to be good and to be rewarded with further soul-lifting support from the cosmos, so it should have been no surprise that the afternoon march and rally against the Iraq war would have a large turnout. But the actual size of the crowd was indeed a nice surprise.

An Open Letter to the Anti-War Movement
Everyone on Sunday felt good being around so many other people who seemed to share the same basic rationality of opposing the war. Big permitted demonstrations provide an important space for a variety of people to see the size of their movement. Maybe the experience will even move some people from being mere marchers to being committed activists and organizers. But I must say that these marches mean next to nothing if they are not part of a broader and more confrontational (not violent) strategy centered on direct action.

Pentagon Gets Coffin, While Protesters Get Arrested!
A Coffin for the Pentagon Activists marched on the Pentagon, on March 20, 2006. In a direct action, a symbolic coffin was hoisted over a fence by the protesters at the facility, located in northern Virginia, just opposite Washington, D.C. About 20 demonstrators were arrested. The "Iraq Pledge of Resistance" organization sponsored the event on the third anniversary of the bloodbath in Iraq. A prayer was also offered near the Pentagon to honor all of the Iraqi dead.

Oregonian's BIG weekend editorial section on Iraq War
The Oregonian sank to new depths this weekend marking the third anniversary of the U.S. War in Iraq. As hundreds of thousands marched around the world protesting peacefully against this war, The Oregonian led off its Opinion section with the huge type, "Crossroads or dead end?" Below were imbedded two, supposedly alternative views along the line of that heading, with a third innocuous title of an opinion piece on page B5, "Are we losing an unwinnable, unjustified war?"

I am going to the march on Sunday. I am going to listen to the speeches, and then walk in the streets to support an anti-war effort. Bring the troops home now. Get out of other people's countries and stop killing them. Impeach the man in the White House, then try him for Treason. I believe it is important for all people of conscience to march, to educate, to engage in outreach. I hope everyone reading this will go out there.
