If you only read the US press, you must be very confused about Venezuela. The extreme levels of distortion, lack of fact checking and source verification and outright manipulation of information in the US media on Venezuela is quite troubling and dangerous in a nation that has waged wars based on false data and misleading policies.

Bush Speech: Full Steam Ahead on Iran Attack
Bush said the U.S. intends to take action against Iranian proxies in Iraq, and vowed to find and destroy the networks supplying these groups with weapons and training." In addition, and ominously if not predictably, Bush "also promised that the U.S. would work 'with others' in order to block Iran from developing nuclear arms and dominating the region."

The 110th Congress is now in session and congressional leaders are expected to move on a broad range of critical matters that are a vital concern to the entire nation; topping the list is the Iraq War, the national debt, the balance of trade, affordable health care, immigration, solving the nation's energy crisis, the environment, and minimum wage. Congress is expected to move quickly to raise the federal minimum wage from the present rate of $5.15 to $7.25 per hour by 2009; it will be the first such increase since 1997.

The 'Surge' Is A Red Herring
"The most realistic way to protect the American people," Bush says, is "by advancing liberty across a troubled region.

"This, of course, is a massive duplicitous lie. We have brought no liberty to Iraq, but we have destroyed their way of life. Bush suggests that Muslims in Afghanistan, Lebanon and Palestine are waiting and hoping for more invasions to free them of violence. Did Bush's invasion free Iraq from violence or did it bring violence to Iraq?

"It is extraordinary that anyone can listen to this blatant declaration of US aggression in the Middle East without demanding Bush's immediate impeachment. "

Gitmo Detainee at Sup. Ct. On the 5th anniversary of the opening of the U.S. prison at Guantanamo, Cuba, Jan. 11, 2007, demonstrations were held across the country. In Washington, D.C., the Supreme Court was the site of a protest action, as was the U.S. District Court. At the latter, about 100 activists were arrested inside the building. Meanwhile, outside, activists dressed in orange jump suits, the uniform of the Gitmo detainees, demanded to have their "Day in Court!"

Daniel Ellsberg Daniel Ellsberg of "Pentagon Papers" fame was one of the riveting speakers at an event at the National Press Club, in Washington, D.C., held on Jan. 4, 2007. It was sponsored by the World Can't Wait organization. Ellsberg said that President George W. Bush and V.P. Dick Cheney have to go. He labeled Bush "dangerous!" He urged activists to push for a two pronged Congressional strategy: First, to cut off all funding for the Iraqi War; and, secondly, to investigate the serial crimes of the Bush-Cheney Gang.

Visionary Duel Challenge: crucial arts orrior v. NYM warrior
back cover to Orrior Comix zine, issue 1 The Native Youth Movement (NYM) has been a curious, energetic motion in the last few years. They have a comic book and spout some curious militant ideas, and as well have made appearances in various canadian and u.s. indigenous-oriented actions. A year ago or so, the NYM made headlines in Earth First! and some places in Indian Country when they took a quite ideologically-challenged position against John Trudell, and *for* 'a relative' by the name of John Graham, who is wanted by many traditionalists on the Pine Ridge Rez in relation to the Anna Mae Aquash murder. This particular peice is mostly art challenging NYM creatives to a *Visionary Duel* on the topic of the quick orientation to violence and authoritarian practices, as one of (?) their comic books ("Zig Zag", which seems to be the name of the artist as well).

Homelessness Is Everyone's Affair Not Just For The Efforts Of A Few
My first full realization of homelessness hit as I was waking up shivering one cold, damp and foggy November morning in 1991. The pain in my lower back was excruciating not to mention the numbness in my legs and feet. I was attempting to raise myself to a seated position in response to pleas from my two little daughters crying out, "Mommy, I'm hungry," and, "Will we find a house today?" I'm not sure which pain paralyzed me more, the pain that immobilized my lower body from lying in a contorted position all night long, with one eye open (being too afraid to sleep), or the pain and fear that gripped my heart as I looked into the eyes of the most precious things in this world to me, my two innocent little daughters. How do you explain to a child (let alone two of them), they are homeless? Furthermore, how do you get them to understand that mommy doesn't know when we'll have a home again, because we are broke; and, every shelter in town is full.
