AIPACís Gabfest: Israel Lobby Shows Off Its Power
Protesting AIPAC The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was in Washington, DC, for a three-day gabfest. Leaders of both the Democratic and Republican Parties were slated to make appearances at the event held at the Washington Convention Center. The Israel First Lobbying group is known for its dominating influence over the U.S. Congress and the presidency. Outside the Center, on March 12, 2007, activists made their voices of protest heard.

A plea against Boston-centrism (applicable to PDX as well)
the dynamic between boston and se mass is applicable to the dynamic between pdx and other small working class cities in oregon. let's show the love and solidarity. and please consider taking action for new bedford. this is a huge crisis and the national response has been lacking. A raid directly affecting 500 workers, 500 families, but truly more as it makes all workers live in terror...it is a humanitarian crisis -- children standing out in the cold after school with no one coming to pick them up on one of the coldest days of this winter so far, infants whose mothers do not come home and they end up dehydrated. this is the largest ICE raid so far - we have to cry out against it or they'll be in Portland soon enough...

PoPiggies do Monty Python stunt on diabetic woman...it goes awry...surprised?
This morning's local media is abuzz with reports of the latest PoPiggy incident.
Seems Portland's so-called "finest" were trying out for a Monty Python skit as
it seemed to fit their level of "humor" and they tasered on a diabetic woman
who was in the throes of full-blown MEDICAL CRISIS.

Were do these Clownish-Cops come from? Did they jock their ways through
High School Basic Health classes and sneaked peeks from other's papers for
test and got it garbled at that?

Anyone that paid attention in their High School Basic Health Classes damned
well knows that the issue of DIABETES was adequately covered and that it
is medical fact that the condition is a metabolism disorder, and that when the
condition causes a drop in a person's blood sugar levels, that their metabolism
rate is gravely disordered same time...more so than usual and when kept under
managed control.

A sane person would then realize that the absolute last thing to be used on a
person suffering a severe metabolism drop (via rapid diabetic blood sugar drop
...a clear and well-recognized MEDICAL CRISIS) is to thrust a taser into their
body...for any reason!

Who is in charge of "training" of these Clownish Cops?

Is it Karen Minnis's (Oregon's very own Queen-of-Mean) hubby....John Minnis?

To sort out the much touted "training deficiencies" the PPB labor under, why
don't we start the discussion with the main dude that head's up the State's
prime agency that oversees cop certifications and their training...let us see
if there is a ny deficiencies with this dude and then work our way down the
long list of culpable government toadies that deserve some sort of smack as
result of this horrible injustice.

A MEDICAL CRISIS for Christ's sake!

The campaigning for the 2008 election is off to an early start and the Democrats in both Houses of Congress are using the Iraq War for political leverage to boaster early public support; however Democrats are deeply divided on troop withdrawal timetables, ranging from mid 2007 to various open-ended commitments to continue the war and occupation beyond 2008.

Sacco and Vanzetti On August 23, 1927, the State of Massachusetts executed two-Italian born immigrants for their alleged roles in the murders and robbery of a payroll clerk and his security guard on April 15, 1920. Professor Deborah Contrada revisits their case and concludes that there was "reasonable doubt, easily" as to their guilt.

The Democratic Party and the Iraq War
The war in Iraq is the most important issue on the minds of American workers and youth. The ruling class is also increasingly concerned about the course of the war, which has now gone on longer than World War II. The seemingly endless stream of dead and wounded Americans and Iraqis, combined with the colossal costs - which mean deep cuts here at home - is having a profound effect on workers' and young people's consciousness.

Students Protest WarThere is an entire generation whose world-view has been entirely shaped by the epoch of war, revolution, and counter-revolution through which we are living. They live in a world where the perpetual "war on terror" - a war of invasion abroad and economic attacks against working people here at home - is the norm. It should therefore come as no surprise that symptoms of a profound questioning of the system are emerging everywhere.

What's next for the Teamsters?
In the recent election for union leadership, members of the Teamsters union were confronted with a choice. On the one side stood Jimmy Hoffa Jr., the incumbent president, who campaigned on the basis of forming a "partnership" with the employers and whose family has had long-standing relations with organized crime. On the other side stood the challenger, Tom Leedham, who has pressed for mobilizing the membership to act in their own interests and strike, if that proves necessary, in order to win gains.

The Election

Teamsters Logo Only 21 percent, or 294,000 Teamsters voted in the November election. This is the lowest turnout since the rank-and-file first won the right to vote on March 13, 1989. Hoffa received 65 percent of the votes cast and Leedham 35 percent, roughly equivalent to the 2001 elections. One of the most striking facts of the election was that, according to documents filed with the Election Supervisor, Hoffa outspent Leedham by $2,000,997. Yet only 13 percent of the overall membership voted for Hoffa, leaving 80 percent completely unmoved by the large amounts of pro-Hoffa propaganda.
