For all the distrust they have of their governments, they are more than ready to believe those same governments when they attack African leaders and nations.
A person came to my blog and in a discussion used my race to make his point. A supporter of his came along and took up the argument and brought it to Indy Media. We had a week long battle on my blog and Indy Media, and since it came here, I feel the need to clarify as well as make an offering of peace to the folks that did this.
I caught this article on the Portland presentation by new head of the Department of the Interior earlier this week, and the lack of a byline, and the unsubstantiated nature of the claims Kempthorne made (and the Oregonian echoed) pissed me off enough to demand an explanation.
Kempthorne is a Bush crony, appointed to a position in the department that is chest-deep in the Abramoff casino corruption, and whose deputy sec'y, S. Griles, was convicted and sentenced for obstruction of justice
Uncomfortable, protracted and almost always preventable.
This is the best explained and most simple to read, step by step way of how to take over the world, I have ever seen. Simply genius reading for those who really care rather than just ranting.
Review of Zapatistas' struggle for autonomy and freedom.
Apart from writing terrific looking reports, and with the exception of bringing much sought after relief in few individual cases, what level of global impact has Amnesty International had over the years? Its own ongoing reports on Israel-Palestine are of exactly zero impact, as empirically evident by the continual reality of new faits accomplis being daily constructed on the ground! In Project Humanbeingsfirst's view, this is entirely because the battles are often being fought at the "low order bits of the issues", when "the higher order bits" entirely determine where "the page faults" (in computer science geek-speak). This deplorable failing in our view, can easily be remedied by addressing the issues at the right levels of abstraction.
This analysis explores why dialogs among civilizations continually fail to produce results by showcasing one short dialog as an illustrative example. The showcased dialog is meant to illustrate the depth of passion, preconceptions, and self-interests that often formulate opposing view points such that if ever they come together for a discussion, they fail to communicate despite all the rationality and compassion they can muster in the best of cases, friends. The Preamble is informally structured into three seamless sections. First section is the narrative that highlights vast disparity in views, emotional affiliations, and cultural attachments, as exemplary of any deeply contentious and dichotomous problem space that is insoluble and irresolute under current best practices among nations and peoples. The second section is the analysis that points towards a rational approach that can potentially make this problem tractable and make contentious dialogs among civilizations actually work despite jealously coddled self-interests. It further examines a snippet from a dialog between former American President Jimmy Carter and his detractors on his own new book "Palestine, Peace not Apartheid" to extend the analysis. The third section develops the rational solution space by proposing a strangely commonsensical algorithm that has hitherto been ignored by nations and statesmen alike, like the proverbial trumpeting elephant in the bridal suite. It further makes suggestions on how to globally deploy this algorithm to validate its premise. The Preamble is followed by a short illustrative dialog in the form of letters and replies to demonstrate how dialogs fail. The illustrative sequence showcasing where it succeeds is left for Part-2. Hopefully that will happen - by employing the commonsensical algorithm developed here - before another civilization is made to hit the dust at the hands of hectoring hegemons!
Stand now, find your revolution.
Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., has voted against previous spending bills for the Iraq war but will vote for the $124 billion measure being pushed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Take a stand people. If the war is evil, so are the people orchestrating it, and so are the people fighting it in our name. Hey, I support the flag burners and the people who torched the US troops in effigy. These demonstrators are true patriots.

Like it or not, America is is full of FAT people. The rate of obesity in the US has continued to rise over the last 40 years and the US is now one of the fattest developed nations on earth. The consequences are alarming and the costs of the obese are affecting the lives of more healthy minded Americans.

Lane Community College has contracted with Iowa-based MetaBank to issue debit cards to students beginning this summer instead of financial aid checks or offering a direct deposit option.
Im tired of people telling us to call our representatives. No. I wont. They dont support us. They are not going to. We have wasted enough time with them. It is a joke. A big joke. They are laughing at us and we don't seem to get it.
Has anyone seen or heard Ron "Antiwar" Wyden lately?

In the recent election for union leadership, members of the Teamsters union were confronted with a choice. On the one side stood Jimmy Hoffa Jr., the incumbent president, who campaigned on the basis of forming a "partnership" with the employers and whose family has had long-standing relations with organized crime. On the other side stood the challenger, Tom Leedham, who has pressed for mobilizing the membership to act in their own interests and strike, if that proves necessary, in order to win gains.
It is time for Americans to smell their delusional democracy and join the rebellion.
Our Dear President has the quality of being persistent: staying the course, lecturing us about something everybody understood before him, and being always too late to respond.
Principles governing the process of the evolution of a new species based upon observations of bedbugs, with the assumption being made that the explanation for the diversity found in bedbugs, and not found in other insects, is an instability which has as its cause the process of evolutionary change.
Advocate groups for free education consider the recent tuition hikes for UC and CSU students to be no less than a tax on college students. California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has done nothing to make education affordable for students since he was elected in 2003. In the past the governor's office has made it clear that education is a right for K-12, but not for higher education.

Patty Murray tries to explain/justify her opposition to impeaching bush and cheney. It is more of the Democrats' script. Why are the Democrats so afraid of impeachment? It does not make sense to me.
This afternoon, a little after 2PM, I was standing near the area where the demonstration was taking place (across from the inJustice Center.)
So I'm asking you, what do you think?
Do you think it's time?
After organizing heavily four years ago and taking a long break I found my answer to why we should pull out right now. Now I have the sentences to say in debates with strangers. Is it not more important to talk to that person in a public place then to keep preaching to the already converted?

This is worth republishing, because it contains the kind of self-analysis that is essential to movement growth and health. It is also essential to hear the context for the perspectives of all who resist oppression and struggle for socio-political change that forms the basis of environmental preservation.

Anyone notice that 300, the film about the 300 Spartans that resisted an attack by the Persians and were greatly outnumbered, is blatant propaganda about what is currently happening now??
The situation in Chiapas is very tense and everyday it worsens. What we're seeing is a new policy that brings together paramilitary forces with state and federal governements, the police and the armed forces, to take away the Zapatista's land and provoke a conflict in order to justify an armed incursion.
The Pentagon was the focus of a spirited Peace demonstration on March 17, 2007. The crowd in the tens of thousands heard from over 30 riveting speakers. Activist Cindy Sheehan said: "Let's stop this b... s...These b... s.... wars. It's for the corporations...to make them rich and line the pockets of the...war criminals." She added: "We're the deciders. And we have decided that we want Bush and Cheney impeached...indicted...and imprisoned."

Consider the question of indie filmmakers as freedom fighters. Every now and then, some flagrant injustice will capture the imagination of an auteur who becomes obsessed with setting things right by making a documentary. Does attention from the alternative media help people in dire situations to get out? What happens to them (and their kids) afterward?
Here's the link to the article which impressed me so much on this topic;
Representative democracy becomes meaningless when so few citizens vote. Here is how we can fix the problem.

Just because burlesque was part of vaudeville's past,
Is no excuse for reviving that disgrace...

Well, apparently the sacred and all powerful cop code was not enough to protect at least three of the coppers who gunned down an unarmed bride groom and his bachelor party back on November 25. Unlike so many other murders by cops, this one was so egregious, and so witnessed, that some of the cops are actually indicted. Of course, it is still a long way to justice.
On 4th Aniversary of Rachel's Death ,she remains unknown to most of her generation
The mountain of evidence of this administration's crimes against the Constitution, the Republic, and the People of the United States has been growing by the month, and Speaker Pelosi's and the DNC's position—that it is better to simply run out the clock to 2008 and let the administration continue to mess up—is looking increasingly craven, calculating and unconscionable.
Kucinich has long shown himself to be that rare thing—a politician of conscience.
He now has the chance to prove it, by standing up to Pelosi and the do-nothing Democratic leadership. As Kucinich said in his statement on the floor of Congress, "This House cannot avoid its constitutionally authorized responsibility to restrain the abuse of Executive power."

Within the past five months, since November 2006, the average driver is paying an additional $42 per month for gasoline and more than $100 per household. Families are finding it difficult to meet household expenses and are cutting back on weekend activities and vacation plans. The higher gasoline prices are driving up inflation nationally and are affecting the cost on consumer goods and services.
Fossil fuel will not last forever, and the change will be monumental. Mainstream media ignores the obvious (the inevitability of peak oil), and belabors the impossible (techno-fixes). Instead of focusing on making the consumer society more efficient we need to be looking at cooperative solutions that will actually work.

Because my life was threatened by some redneck who didn't like my sign, "IMPEACH FOR PEACE"(posted at http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2007/03/355636.shtml yesterday, but 8 hours after submitted), I feel people should see something I wrote last summer about the matter of intimidation as a means of suppression.
Wa Rep. Jay Inslee tries to justify his opposition of WA impeachment resolution. He clearly cannot tell the truth and I am not sure he even knows the truth. Here is his letter with my response.

This morning, as I was leaving for work, I heard a report on the radio that San Francisco is considering a ban on plastic grocery bags because they harm the environment. I thought about it, and decided to count how many plastic bags I could see floating around on my way to work. Here is what I found.

As Bush left Guatemala yesterday, amid massive protests and the defacement
of a McDonald's restaurant with anti-Bush graffiti, the U.S. corporate
media once again failed to put current events (Latin America's shift to
the left) in historical context (the history of devastating U.S. military
and economic intervention in the region).
As we approach the first anniversary of the immigrant worker mega-marches, the struggle for our rights continues. We defeated the Sensenbrenner bill, and yet the attacks on the families of undocumented workers have intensified. Dozens of raids, the limitation of habeas corpus, the militarization of the border, "no-match" letters, and other attacks on our class must be met with a decisive response!
We need a clear program of struggle that can lead us to victory - to full amnesty and equal rights for all immigrant workers and their families.
