Initial Report on John Graham's Extradition Appeal
Harriet Nahanee & Chief Kapilano at Supreme Court, Vancouver, Feb. 21/2005 About 60 supporters of former American Indian Movement warrior, John Graham, showed up at Vancouver's Supreme Court on the morning of May 17, 2007, to oppose the US government's attempt to extradite him on the charge of murdering fellow AIM member Anna Mae Pictou Aquash. Only some 50 supporters were able to actually sit in court because by the time they arrived it was full beyond seating capacity with other supporters as well as members of the corporate media.

Operation Backfire: Guilty Justice (from The Warrior Wind #3)
The lead article from the third issue of The Warrior Wind newsletter: "Almost a year and a half has passed since December 7, 2005, when the first arrests of FBI's "Operation Backfire" took place. Then as now, we recognized these arrests as not just an effort to stop "eco-sabotage," but as an attack on broader circles. [...] Last year saw arrests, informing and finally plea deals--some more principled than others--in these cases. We have also seen resistance and solidarity to varying degrees. It is time to take a look back, but also to think of the future."

Refuting the Deafs: Chavism and Anarchism in Venezuela
* From the publishers of El Libertario goes our reply to the habitual expressions that the coarse right or the easy-going left used to attribute us; the same left that, inside and outside of Venezuela allows that the mirage of the Chávez pseudo-revolution impressed them. We could and would like to say very much more about this subject, however currently here there is the essential and concise information about our point of view that, even when it was expressed several times it does not implies that it does not have to be repeated.

"Do I support Bob [Robideau] in his efforts to get John [Graham] railroaded into prison?" Hell No! I'd be a goddamn hypocrite if I did. Another Leonard Peltier Scandal in the Making
John Graham, an Indigenous man from the Northwest Territories in Canada, is being accused by the U.S. authorities of participating in the murder of Indigenous woman, Anna Mae Pictou-Aquash, another "Canadian". This happened more than 30 years ago. Both were members of the American Indian Movement [AIM]. Since when did the U.S. ever go after someone for killing an Indian? What's behind it? John Graham is currently awaiting an extradition hearing in Vancouver, scheduled for May 17th, 2007. He has been under house arrest there since his apprehension in December 2003.

“Free Trade” and Mass Layoffs in Portland, OR
On April 14th in Portland Oregon, at the doors of NAFTA-loving Democratic Senator Ron Wyden's office, as many as 300 trade unionists came out in a spirited rally representing occupations that ranged from nurses to longshoremen. They were there to protest mass layoffs at a Daimler-Chrysler owned plant that manufactures Freightliner trucks. They were also demanding that Senator Wyden vote against the renewal of Fast Track which eliminates Congressional review, mark-up and oversight of trade agreements, while giving large corporations special access to trade negotiators. These trade unionists saw a direct connection between the mass layoffs and the free trade policies Fast Track has helped to mold.

US Economy: Racing to the Bottom
To begin with one must remember that all the statistics kept on our economy are bogus. They are contrived in such a manner, compiled explicitly for casual regurgitation, so as to never display anything less than full employment, wage growth and a serendipitous lack of inflation.

With that as a foundation, what's actually occurring in this economy is the globalization of assets and wealth. That is to say, because the value of American labor is falling so precipitously, (due to the utilization of cheap foreign labor around the world), the value of the assets held by them is falling in direct correlation with their declining wages. It must.

A Plea to Moms on Mother's Day
The time and effort required for a new-born child is immense and truly only known by moms. Constant care and nurturing of a completely helpless baby is no easy task and one that is mostly forgotten and unknown, except on this one day a year when we give thanks to our moms.

A mother's care is a special gift that is taken for granted most of the time. And, sadly, that is the way man is concerning Mother Earth. We have been taking and taking from her with barely any regard.

Local Papers Spin BFC Arrests, As Expected
The police involved in the arrests of two Buffalo Field Campaign volunteers may never have their actual actions brought to light, at least as far as the general public is concerned. Cameras and film were confiscated and though the cameras will come back soon, and the film later, because of how media works in relation to the public mind, it will no longer be a pertinent issue, as thousands or perhaps more will tune in to new, more novel topics, having made their minds up already.

Advancing Paternal Age as a Robust Risk Factor for Autism
There are negative effects of men fathering babies past the age of 32. Their offspring are at increasing risk of genetic disorders due to mutations in the DNA of sperm making cells that increase with the age of the father. This paper postulates that the epidemic of de novo autism we are experiencing or the upswing in the number of children with neurocognitive developmental disorders is due to the increased average paternal age. First published in the EBD blog

Dr. Gilbert Burnham One of the true horrors of the Iraqi War is the death toll of the civilian population caught up in that conflict. In Oct., 2006, "The Lancet," a prestigious British Medical Journal, published a study entitled: "The Human Cost of the War in Iraq." One of its co-authors was Dr. Gilbert Burnham of the Johns Hopkins U. Its stunning conclusion: 659,965 Iraqis have died in the war as of July, 2006! It is a well-documented phenomenon that you can break a person or an animal's spirit and eventually the person or animal will begin to oppress itself in hopelessness. This is such a well-recognized condition that it has a name: Internalized Oppression.
