Parable of Pete Seeger at Inauguration Concert
Pete Seeger led the group of many in a highly controversial version of Woodie Guthrie's song "This land is your land" the real version- which includes verses about oppression in our land. It was broadcast on HBO who tried to surpress the showing of it on the internet and demanded that the video be taken down off of YouTube. German TV also broadcast the performance and has now put it back up on Youtube. Power to the people! Power to the songsters and the minstrels!

Pass it around!

Afghanistan: Canada Must Pursue a More Independent Foreign Policy
Obama has demonstrated a willingness to further maintain the U.S. as the world's police force and it is unlikely that his presidency will bring about any radical shift in foreign policy. Whether it be through NORTHCOM, the Civil Assistance Plan signed by the U.S.-Canadian military or the Security and Prosperity Partnership, the further merging of our command structures continues as does the militarization of North America.

Why Bailing Out Banks Doesn't Work
The New York Times recently posed an excellent question: "Why save banks if they won't lend?" (January 19, 2009)

Before the first $350 billion "installment" of the bailout, we were told that the money was needed to "unfreeze" the credit markets, meaning that banks would again be willing to lend businesses the money they needed to continue doing business.

Despite hugely popular opposition, the bailout proceeded, and absolutely nothing changed.

Obama and Hope
Obama is a pawn in a much bigger game than national politics. It is also a game larger than that of "capitalism" as this quote states. The "engine of capitalism" is in the vehicle of western civilization and it's time to get out of the vehicle to avoid the crash we are racing towards.

FBI Announces Sighting of Fugitive in BC
The Oregonian and other corporate media published articles yesterday announcing a sighting of Rebecca Rubin, fugitive in the Northwest "Green Scare" cases, who is indicted for Arson and other charges related to actions at Vail Ski Resort, a Susanville, CA wild horse corral, and other actions.

The articles are reprinted nearly verbatim from an FBI press release, and beg the question, "Why would they show their hand?" Logically, it would seem that letting Rebecca know she had been sighted (via the media) would only give her an advantage.

Free Trade: Passing The Baton to Obama
Bush is meant to take the fall and have everything blamed on him. His failures will be used as a steppingstone for the new administration. The global elite have passed the baton to Obama and he will carry on with amnesty, free trade, open borders, a North American Union agenda and the push towards world governance. He will be able to accomplish things that Bush and past presidents initiated, but were unable to complete.

Before the Inauguration
My daughter and I traveled to Washington, D.C. to see the inauguration with the Martin Luther King Jr Commission from the State of Arkansas.
The travel involved a grueling 22 hour bus ride with three driver changes and a host of challenges involving security, changing guidance and massive crowds.

I will never be the same because of my experience. My words would just be another trite effort at describing how I felt, how I feel now, and what I experienced, but on the bus I met a young man, his two brothers and his Mother.

What follows are the words of youngster and I think sum up everything I felt. Please share his words with your friends and wait for the follow-up piece describing his feelings after the inauguration.

So James, as promised:

Look at those blue eyes, what young man would resist that? The facts: This partner was consensual. This partner was an adult, 18. 18 is far above the Oregon legal age of consent, 15. Arrest Bush A rally and march was held in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 19, 2009. It's objective was to give President George W. Bush "the boot" as he exited an office that he has disgraced by his failure to uphold the law. David Swanson, cofounder of afterdowningstreet. org, was one of the speakers at the event. He underscored the importance of appointing a "Special Prosecutor" to look into and hold accountable the culpable members of the Bush-Cheney Gang.

ANARCHISTS AND THE OAKLAND REBELLION
Rumors have begun to circulate that anarchists hijacked an otherwise peaceful event and were responsible for unleashing the 'violence'. The San Francisco Chronicle two days after the rioting quoted an organizer of the Fruitvale rally as saying that he was led to tears when his work was "destroyed by a group of anarchists." This obscures what actually transpired and why, on that evening, the streets of Oakland unleashed such a powerful show of resistance and solidarity that gave many an empowered glimpse of radical new possibilities.

One wonders why so many in the media and film industry are in such frenzy over Christopher Nolan's film "The Dark Night"? Granted the movie is good, and in some ways great, but still the plot is really no more ingenious that what passes for standard fare on Law and Order. So why is it that the Powers-that-Be is such a tizzy? No doubt a fair share has to do with it portending to hold a mirror up to post-9/11 society—with a major theme of how terror can corrupt those that fear and fight terrorism.

Israel's claims of self-defense are clearly refuted by the disproportionate consequences of its aggression. With the death toll rising to 599, including 133 children, 33 women, and 6 medics, Israel can no longer hide the fact that its actions are tantamount to genocide, as Richard Falk, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian Territories, has pointed out.

U.S. Backed Invasion by Israel: Stop the Israeli Massacre in Gaza!
Shortly after darkness fell on Saturday night, January 3, Israel launched a massive land invasion of Gaza involving 9,000-10,000 soldiers, tanks, helicopters, and heavy artillery, engineering and intelligence forces, with the support of Israel's Air Force, navy, and secret police and spy agencies. The ground invasion came after Israel, for the first time, unleashed an artillery barrage on Gaza, striking a mosque and killing at least 11 people. By the next day, Israeli forces had reportedly cut Gaza in half, "bisecting" it between north and south.
