Barack Obama's visit to Ghana is, most fundamentally, about West African oil and natural gas, and control of the corridors for transporting it through the Gulf of Guinea, on the West African Coast.
U.S. Withdrawal from Iraq Cities Greeted with Celebration and Hope
Interview with Raed Jarrar, consultant of the American Friends Service Committee's Iraq Program, conducted by Scott Harris
The great similarities in the pro-corporate and war policies of the Bush and Obama administrations in spite of the obvious differences between the two men.
Americans, its past time to stop letting our public servants define the relationship between them and us.
Can a solution to the crisis in Honduras — itself the result of a military coup — be "mediated," where on one side sit coup leaders and on the other a democratically elected but ousted President? Does any "middle ground" exist? Of course not. If President Zelaya unconditionally returns to finish his term in office, democracy will be restored; anything short of that will have democracy "compromised" into its opposite.
Obama is the behind-the-scenes organizer of this negotiated farce, even though he has no legal or moral right to undermine the democratic process in Honduras. His Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, brought the parties together and chose an "objective" mediator, Costa Rican President Oscar Arias — someone who has obviously aligned himself with the United States.
Honduras Coup: Reaction to President Zelaya's Social Justice Agenda
Interview with Laura Carlsen, director of the Center for International Policy's Americas Program, based in Mexico City, conducted by Scott Harris
California Assembly Majority Leader speaks to KMEC Radio 91.5-Mendocino about California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's end game, as Schwarzenegger and California Democrats remain deadlocked over state budget cuts and revenues, and the California begins operating on CA IOUs.
On January 21st of this year, Oregonians joined veterans, military families, peace, and other pro-democracy organizations across the country in launching the Bring the Guard Home! It's the Law campaign. Since then, Guard Home legislation has been introduced in a dozen states, and new efforts are underway in another dozen states.
California Sea Lions are being killed in the spring at the Columbia River by Oregon and Washington Fish and Wildlife. They eat a small number of salmon, but a senseless policy of killing them to protect salmon is going forward. If citizens got involved and requested this to end, then the Oregon and Washington Fish and Wildlife would stop this. It is just a matter of citizen pressure and media attention.
A judge has ruled the Sit/Lie unconstitutional but Police Chief Rosie Sizer released a memo stating that all the judge ruled was that Portland should just use disorderly conduct instead of Sit/Lie. That is not what the judge ruled and her vague memo creates NO meaningful distinction between the Sit/Lie and disorderly conduct. This is not how the city should react to the loss of the constitutional legitimacy of the Sit/Lie. Two many good people have worked to hard on this issue for the Police Chief to take such a step without analysis and public input....
Mass transit is the only ecologically conscious and rational transportation response to global warming, to global inequity, and to equity here in the U.S., where African Americans ride the bus at nearly three times the rate other Americans do, but federal stimulus funds have gone first and foremost to highways, and left them, along with the rest of us who don't drive or own cars, at the back of the bus.
Insurrections - the armed rising of the people - has always been close to the heart of anarchism. The first programmatic documents of the anarchist movement were created by Bakunin and a group of European left-republican insurrectionists as they made the transition to anarchism in Italy in the 1860's. This was not a break with insurrectionism but with left-republicanism, shortly afterwards Bakunin was to take part in an insurrection in Lyon in 1870.

Advocates for Single-Payer Fight to be Heard in U.S. Healthcare Debate
Interview with Geri Jenkins, a registered nurse and co-president of the California Nurses Association, conducted by Scott Harris
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's state budget is like a gun held to the head of California and its most vulnerable populations: children without health insurance, people with HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer's, mental illness, state prisoners, and whoever they might harm, if the Governor proceeds with his plan to suddenly dump 58,000 state prisoners out of the ghastly gulag he created, with no plan for rehabilitation or re-entry, now that California's out of money. (Or, so say Schwarzenegger and the Republican minority, though California is rich, rich in natural and human resources that Californians simply need to claim. ) Standing adamantly against what he calls the governor's "petulant, vindictive budget, the budget of a two-year-old," and urging Californians to more vocal protest, and State Democrats to stronger leadership, is State Assembly Majority Leader Alberto Torrico.

This guide is intended to be the most functional, reference and introduction to propaganda. I intend to cover as much ground in the shortest form possible; so you could call it utilitarian. While no hands are held- if you have any experience with the media, lying to your parents, or reading into shit you should be able to use this as a very valuable guidepost on your way to mindFucking freedom.
Naw, that's crazy. He's dead-but there he was! He wasn't wearing any of those sequined band leader outfits, or have that glove but it was him with that overly touched up pixie nose, straightened out hair, bleached skin-shuffling about. Either someone went through a lot of trouble to look like 50 year old Michael Jackson... which given Flint's zombie economy is a whole lot more improbable... or... or media reports of him dead are not so true after all.
Now, I know, I know: everyone's reporting that the Moonwalker is dead and probably awaiting his second autopsy. Seems his doctor gave him Demerol and some other medicines that obviously didn't do him any good. Then Michael turns, like he's expecting me.
"Sup." I say.
"What's going on?" Down to that soft, sweet soprano voice! This can't be! What's Michael Jackson doing kicking it in Flint, Michigan?!
... Hell with it, I'm bored-I'll play along...
"So, what are you doing in Flint?
"I live here now."
There should be no doubt about the U.S. decisive role behind the now-crumbling military coup in Honduras. As commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces, the blame for this intervention lies solely on President Obama.
The White House, however, would like you to believe that they attempted to convince the Honduran military not to intervene.
The fifth annual North American Leaders Summit is set to take place August 8-11 in Mexico. It is through trade deals such as NAFTA and initiatives like the SPP that corporations have further strengthened their power and grip over our lives. This corporate agenda threatens our freedom, sovereignty, as well as our standard of living.

Even the most optimistic Obama supporter should cringe in response to the White House's recent "bi-partisan immigration talks." What could Democrats and Republicans possibly have in common over immigration? Quite a lot it turns out.
An enormous sell-out is being prepared for the U.S. immigrant population and Latinos especially — who came out in record numbers in many swing states to vote for Obama last year. Attached to these votes are huge expectations.
A discussion of the great divergence of opinion by leftists on the situation in Iran.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is so determined to shred the state's social safety net, and, privatize everything existing, that he's standing bulldoggedly in the way of any revenue hikes, including oil and gas severance taxes that would raise $1 billion this year. And insisting on $1 billion in budget cuts which will cost the state $5 billion in federal funds.
Simplifying the events in Iran as yet another attempt at a U.S. financed "color revolution" is shortsighted, to say the least. But this is the shallow position many on the left are taking. Fortunately, millions of people partaking in mass demonstrations cannot be reduced to "mere puppets" of Uncle Sam — they have aspirations of their own and ways to achieve them.
It is possible that the U.S. played a role in the events leading up to the massive protests in Iran, since the U.S.-sponsored color revolution formula is well known: a pro-western opposition candidate creates political instability — usually around election time — and uses the demonstrators who support them, who are funneled money through the C.I.A., to help topple the existing regime.
It is important to note that most of California's economic woes have less to do with the national recession; California has a leadership problem in Sacramento. Under the leadership of Governor Schwarzenegger, California's economy has been suffering a continuous decline. Governor Schwarzenegger and the California Legislature have led California into a sea of red ink and have protected special interested groups over the public's interest.
Representatives of all car rental agencies, dealerships, and garages say that for at least several days to weeks there are no rental cars available for several local counties; suppliers and mechanics say there is a shortage or lack of car parts; and others say police and mercenaries and military are practicing closing down all public transit and roads and bike paths and rails; the USFS and BLM, etc. are closing down and destroying forest roads to prevent civilian access, or other means of transport out of Portland or in the area and means for hiding/living in the forest; sustainable or democracy-friendly energy/fuel is being attacked or limited or outlawed. Continuity of Government (martial law) exercises are increasing in quantity, frequency, duration, location, and seriousness. At the same time energy that is harmful to people is being promoted (LNG, nuclear, etc.) and public dissent is being engineered and exploited or controlled and criminalized, requiring civilians more safe access to transportation and emergency escapes and mutual aid.
The US has a pretty definitive history in interfering with the natural flow of politics in Iran. The United States has acted maliciously in the past by subverting a democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran with the Shah in 1953. Could this be happening now? While protests can be encouraging to watch, we all know that this means nothing in and of itself; remember Iraqi's ripping down the statue of Saddam Hussein? Good protests are the ones the media doesn't cover.
Now that the dust has begun to settle on President Obama's latest broken promise to the LGBT community -- his egregious brief FOR the Defense of Marriage Act, comparing equal marriage rights to incest and pederasty -- it's time to examine how we got to this sorry state of affairs.
Greenpeace and Other Environmental Groups Oppose Waxman-Markey Climate Bill
Interview with Damon Moglen, Greenpeace Global Warming Campaign director, conducted by Scott Harris
For more than a week, Iran has been convulsed by mass demonstrations denouncing election fraud. Hundreds of thousands have repeatedly taken to the streets to denounce the government, which is now threatening, and beginning to carry out, a bloody crackdown. This time around, imperialist intervention is veiled: the White House feigns neutrality, the Western media go all out for the opposition, while in the background various agencies provide vital technical aid. In reality, all candidates in the presidential vote swear allegiance to the Islamic Republic, and the supposed moderate reformers are no less butchers and enemies of poor and working people than the conservative "populist" government. The situation cries out for revolutionary leadership independent of all factions of the theocracy, to wage a struggle for workers revolution against imperialism and clerical reaction.
Just another reminder: we were right all along.

His flippant attitude toward Iranian protesters allows a space to think through what links everyday people in the US and Iran—the desire for democracy and freedom, which may contain the universal ability to break through the cynicism of the business analysts, oil traders and would-be dictators.

The State of Alaska, famously said to favor the oil and gas industries, drives the world's hardest bargain with its oil and gas companies; they charge a 25% tax at the wellhead. California charges 0%.
An increased continental approach to security which includes law enforcement, border initiatives and the military could serve to further bind North America into a single foreign policy entity. A militarized security perimeter could be used to restrict, track and trace our movements. There is little doubt that having secure borders should be a priority and that it is important to work together to achieve common objectives. This should not be at the expense of our sovereignty, privacy and freedom.

Why the US Wants to Delegitimize the Iranian Elections
Are You Ready for War with a Demonized Iran?

As Oregon receives its portion of the stimulus package, consideration should be given to how immigrants will be able to pay their rent and feed their families as we sink deeper in to an economic crisis.
Not one democrat in U.S. House from Oregon & Washington voted against war supplemental.
All Bad Legislation comes wearing a halo. That's how about 60 years of Reefer Madness drug war atrocities began. The just-passed law (not signed yet) giving the FDA power to "regulate tobacco" is not what mainstream media, or public officials tell us. It is Reefer Madness II...whether we personally like "smoking" or not.
