On July 21, 2009, Obama Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced a two year "time out" on new uranium mining claims on federal land near the Grand Canyon, in response, it seemed, to the protest of environmentalists, and, Native Americans, who still suffer cancers and other illnesses at rates many times higher than the general population, consequent to uranium mining on or near tribal lands. But the "time out" is straight out of Orwell's 1984, because new claims are not the issue. Over 10,000 claims have been staked on the edge of the Grand Canyon since 2006, and if 1% of them became mines, thirty million people's water supply would be endangered.
Just received a Washington Green Party eletter with an article dismissing "Feminism" as an outdated term. Defining feminism is up to women who know the pain of sexism without relief, as it is up to oppressed to be able to define their dealings with dominator. Sexism harms all life as do all forms of oppression. We must all work to end sexism so well utilized by freetrade ecocidal, femicidal and genocidal profiteering.

wars of aggression are not reasonable (KBOO PressWatch script)

During the last seventy years anarchism has seen itself reduced in almost all the world to a minimal expression, save notable exceptions which have still retained a certain weight, until the beginning of the decade of 1970 (Uruguay is the most notable case in South America), which had, with highs and lows, a certain continuity, as in the Spanish case. Very many factors contributed to its decline and it is not the case, in this article, to evaluate the factors which contributed to this. The truth is that, during this epoch, the majority of libertarian expressions, reduced to a minimal expression, saw themselves limited in their radius of action to propaganda. In such a way, large organisations of libertarian character were reduced to end converted into affinity groups or collectives, which, in one or another way, kept the flame alight by means of a publication or some other form of divulgence.
Everyone who drinks Portland city water from the Bull Run Watershed and appreciates the lack of flouridation and chemicals should call City Council members and express opposition to the building of a new water treatment plant.
At the very least the vote should be delayed by a month to allow folks a chance to understand the issues and speak up to the city council.
Treating Bull Run water will mean LESS protection for the watershed, and higher water rates (these have already been raised 18% to start raising funds for this project). Paying for treating water for cryptosporidium with chemicals when uv light does the same thing makes no cents. There is no reason to be starting up such an expensive project right now when we don't have cryptosporidium in the Bull Run water supply.
Please call the following council members before Wednesday's 9:30 am council meeting and let them know you oppose the building of a waste treatment plant in Portland and that the hearing about this should be delayed at least a month.
Interlocking superstates are the foundation for global government. Much like the formation of the European Union, a North American Union is being created incrementally. There are many different facets to North American integration and this deep-rooted agenda continues on many different fronts.
Public education in the United States is under heavy attack. And because a so-called "progressive" President is leading the charge, many education activists have been lulled to sleep while on lookout duty.
Obama recently announced his "race to the top" program to "reform" education. Much like Bush's No Child Left Behind, Obama's plan represents progress for education in name only.
The California Legislature is now collaborating in the bankers coup d'état led by Government Sachs.

Message to Attorney General:To Restore U.S. Credibility, Hold Officials Who Authorized Torture Accountable
Interview with Christopher H. Pyle, professor of politics at Mount Holyoke College, conducted by Scott Harris
The brutal repression of street demonstrations that have hit Tehran and the larger cities shows the determination of the Iranian government's Ahmadinejad not to tolerate any questioning of his political power. Accused of electoral fraud, the supporters of Ayatollah Khamenei and the outgoing president have responded with arrests, beatings and shootings; the police, the Pasdaran, and Basji volunteers headed by the Pasdaran are the instruments of the current repression.

How much more of Californians' oil and natural gas, and, what else, does Arnold Schwarzenegger hope to give away, for insignificant revenues, in exchange for his signature on future budgets to keep California running, much as the World Bank or IMF's signature keeps Third World nations running, awhile longer, but each time for a higher price?
The former American states of Oregon and Washington and the former Canadian province of British Columbia must join together as a sovereign nation. Only then can we have self-determination and take our rightful place in the Global Community.

Obama and Eugenics are a match made in Sacramento
Many people believed that after Bush had left the White House, rampant arrogance combined with stunning hypocrisy had also gone. Events have proven otherwise. A recent speech delivered in Africa — and one later directed specifically at African Americans — carried with them all the baggage of the Bush years, to the extent that one could safely claim that absolutely nothing had changed. And although Obama is able to give a more compassionate and intelligent speech than was possible with Bush, the essence of their policies is identical. Both Africans and African Americans can expect no help from the U.S. government in addressing their serious and specific grievances, themselves the result of past and current U.S. government policy. Instead, both were given the same solution: if you want help, help yourselves, "no excuses."
There are thousands of Elk, permanent residents of Oregon and Washington, our fellow citizens. Animal lovers could reach out and be involved in their health and welfare through the publicly funded state wildlife agencies.
Maybe you didn't hear the news: Card Check — the key provision of the Employee Free Choice Act — is dead. You might not have gotten the message because U.S. labor "leaders" are remarkably silent on the issue. Not a peep.
The media, however, has the story right: the Democrats are now officially seeking a compromise, one that strips the bill of its essence — the right for workers to start a union by stating their intention to do so.
So why are most union leaders so quiet? No one likes to talk about their blunders, especially the colossal type. The defeat of Card Check is a mighty blow to labor, and admitting that your strategy failed to achieve it may cause others to question your authority.
Campaign Intensifies to Stop Mountain Top Removal Coal Mining
Interview with Judy Bonds, co-director of Coal River Mountain Watch, conducted by Melinda Tuhus
From whatever angle you approach it, the present offers no way out. This is not the least of its virtues. From those who seek hope above all, it tears away every firm ground. Those who claim to have solutions are contradicted almost immediately. Everyone agrees that things can only get worse. "The future has no future" is the wisdom of an age that, for all its appearance of perfect normalcy, has reached the level of consciousness of the first punks.
July 16th, 2009, marked the 30th anniversary of the worst nuclear accident in U.S. history, when, at 5:00 A.M., 1100 tons of uranium mining tailings, and 100 million gallons of radioactive water burst through United Nuclear's earthen dam, into the Rio Puerco, at a uranium mine in Church Rock, New Mexico, on the Navajo Reservation. Today, the Navajo Nation remains under toxic siege, by coal mining, uranium mining, and coal-fired power, even though an EPA doc already suggests that the entire reservation is a Superfund site. The Navajo Tribal Council, in 2005, passed a uranium mining ban, the Diné Natural Resources Protection Act, and thus won a Nuclear Free Future Award, but the ban has been under pressure ever since, and uranium mining claims now surround the Navajo Reservation like an advancing army.
An answer to neo liberalism. Bottom-up rights are those rights excluded from the UN human rights instruments which are devised to perpetuate neo liberalism and globalization. The discontented will have to struggle to have these rights included. Those mainly affected are the independent peoples e.g.small business, and the most disadvantaged. The bottom-up rights also entail an ethical globalization which addresses the most serious violations.

G-8 Summit Fails to Make Progress on Global Warming

The hideous unknowns (or knowns) of cell phone use will take us all out one way or the other. either we all use phones or are exposed to enough background radiation from towers and passive phone radiation we are being turned into zombies as this technology alters the structure of our brains and gives some cancer and other debilitating conditions
"As a banker, I also welcome the fact that the 'cap-and-trade' system is becoming the dominant methodology for [carbon dioxide] control."
-Simon Linnett, Executive Vice Chairman of Rothschild Bank.
Can the looming environmental catastrophe be solved by environmentalists working side by side with Wall Street Bankers? Such a question doesn't deserve a serious answer. The Democrats, however, are attempting to address the issue of global warming by developing a "partnership" between those who love the earth, and those who love only profits.
"God is not a real estate agent," Palestinian scholar Edward Said's responded to Zionists' claiming scriptural proof, from the Old Testament, that God had given Palestine to them. Were Edward Said still among us,he might now respond, "God is not a commodities broker," because Zion Oil and Natural Gas now claims scriptural proof,Genesis 12:1-3, and 49:25, and Deuteronomy 33:24 that God gave the oil and natural gas in the land of milk and honey to them as well.
U.S. and Russia Move Toward Reducing Number of Nuclear Weapons
Interview with John Isaacs, executive director and president of the Council for a Liveable World and executive director of the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, conducted by Scott Harris
Arnold Schwarzenegger calls for "shared sacrifice" in California State budget cuts. But who is he willing to sacrifice? Children who will go without health care, young pregnant women who will not receive counseling, working moms, students depending on state sponsored college scholarships, and people with disabilities, Alzheimer's, mental illness, and HIV/AIDS. And who is to too big to sacrifice? Exxon-Mobil, Chevron, Shell, Conoco-Pillips, and BP. The Governor and California Republicans adamantly insist that the oil and natural gas companies will pay no severance tax for the privilege of extracting oil and natural gas that belongs to Californians, even as the State goes $25 million deeper into high interest debt every day.
In the interest of seeing the 'dialogue' so many have asked for, its nice to see Tim Calvert's recent statement regarding his organizing of an anti-semitic, racist event in Portland posted here. It actually offers an opportunity to pose clearly some of the questions which the recent hosting of Vladas Anelauskas by Calvert and PDX 9/11 Truth have brought up.

Real health Care reform is dead.
An "open letter" in popular economics. You might think capital was the root of all evil, but really the task of the leftist is to achieve collective equilibration to necessary economic activity -- which can never completely leave the circuits of capital, since what money wants to capture is essentially appealing to the human and there will always be structure to industrial production -- as painlessly as possible.

Supreme Court Ruling in New Haven Reverse Discrimination Case May Erode Civil Rights Act

Barack Obama's visit to Ghana is, most fundamentally, about West African oil and natural gas, and control of the corridors for transporting it through the Gulf of Guinea, on the West African Coast. Nigeria, the greatest source of African oil for export, is at the center of the African oil producing states bordering the Gulf, and the Niger River is the corridor for transporting Nigerian oil and gas, and now, oil and gas from landlocked Niger, as well.
President Barack Obama's main duty under the U.S. Constitution is to see to it that the laws are "faithfully executed." By a UN Treaty, approved by the Senate, in 1994, torture is against U.S. law. No ifs, ands or buts about it. No exceptions! In Honduras, some apologists for the "de facto" regime, are pretending that they followed the law, when they gave their president the boot. Will Obama play the same "pretend game" on Torture? Stay Tuned.
