g20 Report in NY Times
Are we out of time, what must be done----NOW
Can anyone explain this? I sure can't from the stand point of being Indigenous and an Elder! I can't even begin to understand why any Indigenous Nation here on Turtle Inland would be party to committing genocide on other nations of color?
Too Much Thought and Talk Paralyzes and Defers Action.

With the G-20 summit approaching, cheerful talk of "international cooperation" fills the White House press-room. These comments carry with them the implication that "free trade" is integral to "cooperation," a fact made explicit in the last meeting of the G-20. There, in the name of "united action," world leaders agreed not to install any new protectionist measures. Since then, protectionist measures have flourished. Instead of global cooperation we have its opposite: international tensions are on the rise as trade disputes sharpen.
Resistance is fertile. We will not be inoculated.
Michael Moore's movie, 'Capitalism: A Love Story' will be a shocking revelation to the millions of Americans who believe in capitalism; however, socialists will understand that 'Capitalism: A Love Story' does not reveal the ultimate danger and damage that capitalism is wreaking on the working class and world economies on a global scale.
To Stop Nuclear Proliferation, Washington Must Lead by Example
Interview with Lorelei Kelly, director of the New Strategic Security Initiative project at the Center for Arms Control and Nonproliferation, conducted by Scott Harris
The venom and vile the spews forth from America's body politic is endemic of a people infected with fear and prejudice; but this learned hatred of a democratic agenda is not one based primarily on racism—yet hostility and resentment is very much its spirit. Rather this anima of animosity is one that seeks scapegoats for any instability felt or imagined of America's middle and lower class realities, and all presumptions of a relatively naïve and misinformed society.
Interesting! I wonder if Obama acknowledges connection between '60's "mass protests" & his being president. I wonder how Gandhi & King would react to this interview, & how my hero, Bishop Tutu, would respond. Well, i'll be in Pittsburgh, because i DO advocate mass protest!
A three-month old baby in Louisiana died in her home from blood loss due to rat bites. There were holes in the walls and holes in the floor. Evidently, the landlord spent FEMA money earmarked to repair the house on something else, but the authorities were still trying to determine if they should file criminal charges against the parents!
You are hearing it first here on Portland Indymedia because the corporate media has yet to report that thousands of fish have washed up on the shore in Seaside OR today. The cause is unknown at the moment. Hopefully we will find out more soon.....
David Corn has long been known to have other agendas in his writings for The Nation, Mother Jones and other 'leftist' publications.
In a September 7 piece for Mother Jones though, he specifically blames the recent canning of Van Jones - candidate for Obama's 'green jobs' advisor position - by right wing echo chamber media shills as SOLELY the responsibility of the 9/11 Truth movement (due to Van Jones' having signed a single 9/11 petition years ago).
New U.S. Military Bases in Colombia Will Increase Regional Tensions
Interview with Larry Birns, director of the Council on Hemispheric Affairs, conducted by Melinda Tuhus
Fit for human occupation, but unfit for the greedy finance capitalists who run the banking industry. No TARP program for homeowners in the Northeast Bronx.
Michael Moore's movie, "Capitalism, a Love Story" will be a shocking revelation to the millions of Americans who believe in capitalism; however, socialists will understand that "Capitalism, a Love Story" does not reveal the ultimate danger and damage that capitalism is wreaking on the working class and world economies on a global scale.
The U.S. State Department has just wrapped up a deal with Colombia's President Uribe that will lead to a massive buildup of U.S. military personnel across seven bases in Colombia. Currently, there are a reported 250 U.S. military operatives in this nation. With the new agreement, this number will jump up to 800 American troops and 600 civilian military contractors. This is the maximum number allowed under previous agreements. Even with this limit, however, many expect the U.S. military buildup to exceed these numbers.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said of the agreement, "This is about bilateral cooperation between the U.S. and Colombia." She included references to "drug traffickers, terrorists, and other illegal armed groups."
The President of Colombia's neighbor, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, had a very different interpretation of the agreement. He characterized it has a "threat to Venezuela that could generate a war in South America."

I knew it was necessary to wait a little while to write about this.
The church where I have been living in for 3 years & receiving a small
salary in exchange for duties such as running the sound system for church services, building maintenance and cleaning duties gave me a 2 week
notice and has asked me to vacate the building. I am 60 years old, have
nowhere to go, and I need some help and advice.

Despite all the rhetoric, nothing much has changed and the fundamental contradictions of the system remain. The only solution is to rid ourselves of it.
Dire Poverty is Unaddressed Factor in Afghan War
Interview with author and columnist, Norman Solomon, conducted by Scott Harris
If you find an electrocuted rat in your kitchen stove, odds are that your landlord has breached the implied warranty of habitability in your lease. What if he won't fix the problem? What can you do?
It would serve the public interest best if the John Day Basin Resource Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement was rendered not worthy of further consideration and set aside in the same way as its nasty sister, the Western Oregon Plan Revisions.
As designated managers of our precious public lands the Bureau Of Land Management has a responsibility to provide the public with the highest quality of service possible. That is certainly not happening here.
Wu's oped deserves outrage
Wells Fargo clearly lacks proper internal controls to prevent abuse of foreclosed properties. Firing Guyton is not enough. A full investigation must be conducted, and the results duly reported to Wells Fargo's shareholders-the taxpayers!

We have the story. Another tragic murder mystery with few leads. A bride to be stolen from the alter in the prime of her life, only to leave a Nation, watching, wondering?
A one week Search, and Nothing? No Cadaver Dogs in the building of disappearance? Scoffed at confirmation when suggestions of a body being found by authorities? And then, after the intensity of interest peaks - "Stuffed in the Wall".
After the financial levees broke and the crumbling banks ushered in the economic crisis, angry people clamored for drastic change in the financial system. Obama reflected these feelings well, at times using radical rhetoric to denounce the banking titans. What he promised was deep regulatory change so that such a crisis "would never happen again."
Like every other promise of substance, Obama's pledge to "rein in" the banks has fallen by the wayside; the well-timed rhetoric smoothed over public tensions and now business is back to usual. The New York Times remarks:
Anyone else going to be at G-20 next week?
(I'm posting this even though I see that the newswire is completely blank this morning...)
I'm putting this out there as a topic for conversation. It wasn't inspired by anything in particular I saw or heard on the anniversary of 9/11, or over the weekend. I didn't actually see much, in regard to the 9/11 anniversary. Today I was channel surfing, and on C-Span I saw a little bit of a 9/11 remembrance at the Pentagon, with Obama in attendance. (and Gates next to him). A brass band played a subdued yet almost jazzy version of America the Beautiful which I thought was really good. It didn't have the patriotic snap and stiffness that such songs are usually required to have.
The warranty of habitability, the landlord's guarantee that he will provide you a unit with more amenities than a cave or a cardboard box, is implied in every lease, written or verbal. Unfortunately, many landlords think their properties should perform like an annuity?that the rent should just roll in, like interest, while the landlord does nothing to maintain them.
I believe that cops as carriers of weapons and 'police powers' need to able to check themselves and their own attitudes BEFORE approaching a citizen. Otherwise...angry cop 'syndrome' soon winds up in OUR laps...no matter what we have or have not done. But to those who think that such simple logic is also the same logic cops use?...Welcome to BACKWARDS LAND!. Another case in point:
When the Americans lament many give laughter... with reason.

AIPAC May Be Losing Clout on Capitol Hill
Interview with Robert Dreyfuss, journalist and author, conducted by Scott Harris
President Obama is a friend of the working people... one day a year. The rest of the year he is rewarding banks with bailouts and war contractors with more war. On Labor Day, workers were offered nothing of substance, just kind words.
Obama began his speech by spending an excessive amount of time exaggerating the leadership abilities of both AFL-CIO officials and Ohio's Democratic representatives. The motive was simple: the "partnership" between organized labor and the Democratic Party is central to the languishing existence of the two-party system, while helping to keep the labor movement in an equal state of decline and decay.
Dear Republicans, extreme capitalists, greedy rich, robber barons, anti-government extremists, hate mongers, money launderers, and others of dubious ethics.....
grab a handkerchief and wring out your heart through your eyes.
Bowing to Republican muck-raking, Obama has apparently pressured Jones into resigning from the administration. But the original Obama-Jones environmental program, which Obama has mostly kept on the level of rhetoric, was never enough to begin with. Mass environmental action is needed!
Did not send to wyden or blumenauer due to disrespect/disappointment concerning their lies on War and Peace
Trade, social development and foreign aid, along with other endeavors, have been used to further promote U.S. interest around the globe. In some cases, this has resulted in shared security goals and closer military cooperation which has led to U.S. involvement in the region. In the aftermath of the SPP's demise, beware of other initiatives that could take its place and advance economic, political, social, security and military integration, not only in North America, but the rest of the Western Hemisphere.
The partnership between the heads of organized Labor and the employers strengthens as Trumka dumps EFCA after spending millions of dollars of member's hard earned dues money getting our enemies elected in to office.
Considering the number of resources mobilized by the private health insurance lobby, there can be little surprise that HR 3200 is a 1,000-page legislative mess. The pressure of the lobby ensured that any reform is framed as part of new "health insurance exchanges." This idea was concocted by the conservative Heritage Foundation, transmitted by the health care industry lobby, and is now being mouthed by an assortment of politicians as a trailblazing virtue -- note Obama's "choice and competition" slogan.

With Cindy in Martha's Vineyard
I spent but a short time with Cindy Sheehan as she carried her antiwar protest from an earlier time at Crawford, TX, to Martha's Vineyard, vacation spot for Obama and many other Democrat Party elite. As Cindy remarked, the real story was not that she was protesting Obama's wars but that the "leadership" of the peace movement did not support her protest. When the target was Bush in Crawford, she was all the rage with antiwar celebrities, but not so now that the target is Barack Obama. While there is considerable enthusiasm for her anti-Obama protest on the part of the rank and file in the anti-war movement, a refusal of its "leaders" to notify their members far and wide, high and low, crippled the action.
up in smoke
In her new book Blood & Capital: The Paramilitarization of Colombia, Jasmin Hristov seeks to expose the rational motivations behind state violence for capitalism's economic elites in the US and Colombia. In meticulous detail, Hristov shows how the super-rich benefit from state repression and how the violators of human rights have essentially become immune from any consequences for their actions. If death squads are truly to be abolished in Colombia, we must look honestly at how and why they exist today.
America is in deep doo doo! It goes beyond the Wall Street-induced financial meltdown. David Swanson's "Daybreak" book is a wake-up call and a plan for "Citizen Power" action. The Bush-Cheney Gang is gone, but President Obama acts like he is serving out Dubya's third term. How presidential power was enlarged and the Congress collapsed is good to know. However, how to fight to get our country back from these usurpers, is even more important.
