In the back of a truck on a rainy winter day we pull off I-5 into Seattle. High in the distance a banner hangs from a crane building condos. WTO this way, Democracy that. A guy holding incense flashes a victory sign greets cars as they go into downtown. We find our friends, the house we would be staying in for the week of the convention. This house near downtown became our trenches. We ate from cans of beans with pocket knives.
Liberals are a useless lot. They talk about peace and do nothing to challenge our permanent war economy. They claim to support the working class, and vote for candidates that glibly defend the North American Free Trade Agreement. They insist they believe in welfare, the right to organize, universal health care and a host of other socially progressive causes, and will not risk stepping out of the mainstream to fight for them. The only talent they seem to possess is the ability to write abject, cloying letters to Barack Obama—as if he reads them—asking the president to come back to his "true" self. This sterile moral posturing, which is not only useless but humiliating, has made America's liberal class an object of public derision.
Bjorn is staying on traacvk with the message of his think tank, the Copenhagen Consensus Center. He headers todays article with this:"The glaciers on the famous peak, receding for more than a century, attract many tourists; the people of Tanzania attract much less attention."
Then its on to ask: "global warming, true, but how to address it?" That might be his mantra. Does the environment trump helping people? Or are the two part of a ballanced aide to humanity.
He notes that climate activists are "doing a poor job at bringing attention to the actual people of Tanzania" while alarming us, overly alarming us at that, of the ice melt on the mountain. (more on that below.)
Bottom line might be by the woman this story features.
"There is no need for ice on the mountain if there is no people around because of HIV/AIDS."
We need to do more, much more!
This is a call for informed consent reform and the criminal prosecution of medical staff who participate in the "medical rape" of patients.
The perspective and cognitive dissonance of the public really grabs my attention. This site is a great example. I've visited PIMC consistently for about a year and have decided to contribute. So much of the public opinion about law enforcement is a simple double standard.
Trutherism, its nature and threat to the anti-war movement.

Britain's Iraq War Inquiry Uncovers Bush-Blair Lies and Deception
Interview with Dave Lindorff, author and columnist, conducted by Scott Harris
Just an idea
I found anintriguing article which includes both the social justice take on America, and foreign impressions of our lovely nation.
Recently a conference was held in Caracas, Venezuela that included representatives from socialist and left parties from around the world and that culminated in an official statement, referred to as The Commitment of Caracas. As reported by Venezuela Analysis, one of the points included in this statement was reference to a call by Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela, for the formation of a Fifth International in order to promote the defeat of capitalism and the creation of "Socialism of the 21st Century."
Coal Industry Plagues Appalachian Communities with Health Hazards
Interview with Matthew Louis-Rosenberg, Coal River Mountain Watch activist, conducted by Melinda Tuhus
Many Veterans are denied access to V.A. health care, but many who think they are getting health care are not. The Veterans Administration physicians have orders NOT to diagnose and treat veterans for many treatable conditions. What are the implications for health care reform?
Obama Ups the Ante in Afghanistan, Graveyard of Empires
Interview with Nicholas Davies, author of "Blood on our Hands: The American Invasion and Destruction of Iraq", conducted by Scott Harris
Our public agencies and officials are hard at work building a "failed state." I would define a "failed state" as one that does not meet the minimum requirements for attaining a measure of public legitimacy based on serving broad social needs. Such a state can only maintain authority through brute force. A state will "fail" once it stops serving the needs of a critical mass of its citizens. The term has been coopted by US militarists as a pretext to justify unlawful and violent interference in the affairs of foreign states, but it remains a useful concept in spite of this taint.
Tuesday's announcement that President Obama will send an additional 30,000 soldiers to Afghanistan — while begging his foreign allies to send an extra 10,000 — will have dramatic effects throughout the American and world society.
The hope that Obama's election would drastically change U.S. foreign policy has been destroyed. The effects of his troop surge will change the minds of millions of Americans, who, until this point, were giving Obama the benefit of the doubt.
Such moments in history are capable of instantly removing piles of dust from the collective eyeball — just as the bank bailouts did.
2. Danes caught fiddling their carbon credits. (Hat tip: Philip Stott) Carbon trading is the Emperor's New Clothes of international finance. It was invented by none other than Ken Lay, whose Enron would currently be one of the prime beneficiaries in the global alternative energy market, if it hadn't been shown to be (nearly) as fraudulent as the current AGW scam. It is a licence to fleece, cheat and rob. Still, jolly embarrassing for the Danes to get caught red handed, what with their hosting a conference shortly in which the world's leaders will try, straight-faced, to persuade us that carbon emissions trading is the only viable way of defeating ManBearPig. KEN LAY? ENRON? GREEN AGENDA???
Now that people are catching on to precious metals, it should be noted that the proliferation of bullion in the form of rounds that might legally fit the bill as "currency" is suspect, as it renders them due to confiscation
Why more food for Obama's wars? Heroin. Oil. Natural gas. Pipelines and transport corridors more oil and natural gas, and, no doubt, heroin. More U.S. dollars, borrowed from the Chinese, to secure more fossil fuels and perpetuate the military industrial complex, which needs lots of dollars, and oil and gas, to keep fighting, and manufacturing, for war.
I was just watching the "news." I know, I know...
But am I the only one who recognizes the logic here?
President Obama has recommitted to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Expanding the TPP would further distinguish it as the only regional free trade agreement that spans both sides of the Pacific, linking Asia with the Americas. It could gradually evolve into a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific. Such an undertaking is seen as years away, but U.S. participation in the TPP could speed up such plans.
[This is really horrific; please take a few minutes to let the BLM know that Oregon water-dependent species will be irreparably harmed by all the action alternatives, and that herbicide use should be phased out, instead of tripled.]

A letter I am sending to Congress and the President regarding the Human Rights abuses and the upcoming sham of what is called an election in Honduras. This election should NOT be honored nor approved by the USA. There have been very serious Human Rights violations by this military coup overthrow and in my opinion, its Americas duty, NOT to endorse the upcoming elections.
Lawsuit Challenges Congress' 'Unconstitutional' Defunding of ACORN
Interview with Jules Lobel, vice president of the Center for Constitutional Rights, conducted by Scott Harris
Wading through the endless debate over health care has exhausted the patience of most Americans — the zigzags, obscure language, and long-winded discussion is inherently repulsive.
But now the dust is starting to settle, and the Congressional vision for health care in the U.S. is emerging. Instead of being "progressive," it will amount to a massive, corporate-inspired attack on American workers, the elderly, and the poor.
Obama's Double Standard Gives Some but Not All 9/11 Defendants Civilian Trials
Interview with Marjorie Cohn, former president of the National Lawyers Guild, conducted by Scott Harris
The threat to Mumia Abu-Jamal's life is increasingly ominous. His lead attorney, Robert Bryan, warns: "There is an escalated effort by the authorities to see him die at the hands of the executioner. This is the most dangerous time for Mumia since his 1981 arrest." The U.S. Supreme Court has turned down Jamal's two appeals. If it were to rule in favor of the prosecution's appeal, this would open the way for Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell to issue a third warrant of execution, which he has vowed to do. Contrary to the misplaced expectations of many, the Obama administration is not about to save Mumia. Around the world, hundreds of thousands have marched for this courageous champion of oppressed. Trade unions representing millions of members have rallied to the defense of Mumia. It is urgent to expand this support into powerful labor/black action, appealing to the integrated union movement to join with the black, Latino and immigrant poor to demand that he be liberated.
As one of the founders and leaders of the Direct Action Network and a resident of Olympia, Washington, I offer personal and political reflections on the WTO shutdown as a major turning point in my life as an organizer and in our lives working to build movements in the US.
911 truth on New Zealand national news
Thanks to the government bailout, bankers and brokers are now self-righteously pocketing their record bonuses, reassured by Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein that they are doing "God's work" (The New York Times, November 17, 2009). There is no humility in these quarters. Yet working people continue to be battered by relentlessly rising unemployment, caused by an economic crisis they had no part in creating. Officially the rate stands at 10.2 percent with the unofficial rate hovering around 17.5 percent, since it also includes part-time workers wanting full-time work and those who are discouraged and no longer looking for work. Both statistics are on the verge of rising.

And I Will Never Forget Those Years of Revolution.
Health care bill, now in hands of the Senate, ignores every industrial threat and harm to health. It finds that people's behavior is the biggest threat. Could this be because all Senators are economically-linked to health-harming industries, AND their insurers and investors? Sworn and public-paid Congress members wouldn't go AWOL on their solemn oaths and duties to the people, would they?
If we are not actively restructuring society as we live then we most likely funding the machine that enslaves.

The following article was written by members of the Occupied London collective for Svartur Svanur, Iceland's first anarchist magazine - an Icelandic translation will appear soon in the magazine's third issue. We are reposting the article here with the usual disclaimer that this is far from an "objective" take on the situation in the country; it is an un-shamelessly politically biased one, and this time we have opted for a slightly personal take, too. Comments, feedback etc are as always very welcome, either here on the blog or at email@example.com. December is so close...
A reflection on "disposable income."
What you don't know about the Federal Reserve is hurting you.
Prosperity without growth;Capitalism Failing?
If the President had offered us a job summit a year ago, he might have been taken seriously. Now, however, after more than six million jobs have been lost — and with the bottom still falling — Obama's brain storming get-together can only be treated with contempt, if not outrage.
What is needed is immediate action, not idle chatter. We already know what works: federal stimulus money channeled directly towards job creation, a public works campaign to help rebuild the U.S. crumbling infrastructure, full funding for education and social services, and more.
Sure we all know that ACORN is against the big bad right wing g'ment , the "man" the opressor of the masses...but lets get real, morally speaking, for a few minutes. Moral folk do not get caught up in the sort of stuff the right has caught ACORN in. They do not play those games for 'the man' or to advance the end of 'the man.' As it has of been put by the confidence criminals:" you can't con an honest man." This relates to how those scams rely on the human weaknesses of the victim to get something undeservedly, illegally, immorally. What is the difference from that for the ACORN workers who have gladly gone along with this up-front "underage international prostitution ring to finance my campaign" sting? How do so many agents fighting the noble fight for truth dignity and equality and an end to oppression......end up going along?
Oh, you might say its not ACORN, its just the employees as incividual persons and it should not be taken as a reflection.....
Oh really. "My husband and my kids might burn crosses in that black mans yard, and they might all proudly paste KKK stickers on their truck windows. But that should not say anything about me, a mother, nor about my childrearing practices and how I ....."
The ends justifies the ends? well, don't some also remember that the means ARE the ends? Don't some scoff at the wisecrack that "we burned the village to save the village" as well?
My enemies enemy is my friend? Pimps are against the legal system. The Cartels to the south are against civilized laws, courts, imprisonment, police, the established order....does that mean we should take them as allies in the strugle for life liberty and dignity?
Protests in 19th Year Demand Closure of U.S. Military School for Latin American Soldiers
Interview with Eric LeCompte, chief organizer with the School of the Americas Watch, conducted by Melinda Tuhus
Al Gore calls out the astroturf protesters, who numbered in the hundreds, it seemed, outside Keller Auditorium and in the park just west of it.
I have never seen a fabri-protest before, but this was wild, complete with a band playing supposed Patriotic music (heard some tune about "remember the twin towers"...not my idea of patriotism!) on a bandstage, and vendors selling AFP and Teabagger T-shirts.
Can we find out who poured the money into the staging of protests of Al Gore and his message about Global Warming, and perhaps use the courts to do so?
This is a stain on Portland that should not resurface!!

Interview with Dana Frank, professor of history at the University of California, conducted by Scott Harris
Israel was founded in 1948 with the blessings of the British Empire, colonial masters of Palestine of the time, and has since served as "watchdog for the West" and its corporate interests as a U.S. imperial colony.
In the ten years since the World Trade Organization (WTO) protests in Seattle, global opposition to free trade and "globalization" has exploded. The general public now has a basic understanding of how the world economy works ... against them: companies scour the globe searching for slave wages, which help push down wages in "developed" countries; any regulation that reduces profits — environmental, financial, labor, etc. — is destroyed or ignored.
The two focal points of the anti-globalization movement have been dismantling of the WTO and free trade agreements; both legitimate targets. However, what happens if both goals are accomplished? Mission Accomplished?

The greatest terrorist known to the Christian world is the Anti-Christ—he represents all the fear mongering any religion could possibly create. Ever since the axis of newsmedia, government and American naivete succumbed to the improbable story of highjackers commandeering huge airliners, which they were not trained to fly, with mere box cutters no doubt, Osama bin Laden has become the greatest threat to the United States of Feeblemindedness. So great is his cunning prowess that he threatens the gigantism of the American pentagon and White House cabinetry, as tax-holic corruption galore, from bat caves thousands of miles away. Only a devil could be so wily. Apparently one of his evil attitudes is that he doesn't support drug cartels or their profit motive.
The state of Virginia executed John Allen Muhammad, the Washington area sniper, who killed ten innocent people on a murder spree. Muhammad, like Timothy J. McVeigh, was a Gulf War Vet, who was exposed to deadly toxic chemicals. His lawyers pleaded with Governor Tim Kaine to spare his life, arguing that he was suffering from the "Gulf War Syndrome." Albert Camus, the author, said the death penalty was really about--"vengeance!"
Media Spins Nov. 3rd GOP Victories as "Change Election"
Interview with Karl Frisch, senior fellow with the group Media Matters for America, conducted by Scott Harris
Americans are more than ready for publicly-run healthcare that guarantees access at all levels of the system.
The labor movement is beginning to stir after decades of setbacks and defeats. Having embraced the concept of a partnership with the employers, most labor officials renounced any recourse to strikes, the only effective weapon when properly employed, and proceeded to negotiate one concessionary contract after another for their membership. Meanwhile they attempted unsuccessfully to pursue their goals through their other "partner," the Democratic Party.
But the current economic crisis has resulted in tremendous pressure on the labor officials from the rank and file, who are bearing the brunt of the crisis through massive job loss, health care termination, home foreclosures and evictions. And although much still needs to change, hopeful signs are sprouting up on the horizon.
