our u.s.supreme court is composed of some very keen minds and are now all very aware that other unjust minds and souls in powerful positions in america are attempting to have normal caring americans believe all of a sudden that modern day advances in science (dna or fingerprint evidence) should only be available to convict criminals and not exonerate the innocent !!!
live audio from BURN of tonight's action.
The police are just the front man for a society that doesn't want to reach out a hand to its troubled members.
Everyone who was assaulted by the police in tonights march should file charges against the officers who assaulted them.
Drunk with success over their Health Care bill passing, the Democrats are now lusting after even greater conquests. With the celebratory hangover still aching, the Democrats lurch forward towards a hasty drive to "reform" Social Security.
The Social Security reform will no doubt resemble the health care reform, the details of which remain a mystery to most Americans. The essence of both policies will be based on one principle: reduce the debt of the United States by any means necessary.
fuck the police sedition of Anarchy Now. oldie but goodie.
WRAP, Western Regional Advocacy Project, holds secret closed meeting on housing in Portland. WRAP, a new nonprofit west coast alliance of housing advocates, is holding a daylong meeting in Portland today on housing strategy, but the meeting is private and 'invite-only.'
Today marks the 2 month anniversary of the execution of Aaron Campbell at his doorstep by officer Ronald Frashour. Aaron, a father of four, had been taking care of his brother Timothy who was slowly passing away from kidney failure, in the months prior to his death. Daily Aaron nursed him and kept his brother company at his bed side at OHSU. On January 29th Aarons brother passed. The intense grief and stress of months of slowly watching his brother fade led Aaron to a break down. Having no one else to turn to his girlfriend made a call to the Portland Police in hopes that they would calm Aaron; instead, officer Ronald Frashour murdered Aaron at his door step. Shooting him in back with his AR-15 assault riffle.
posting plans of action and sensitive planning on public forums is a great way to help out the cops.
The B-side building's obtrusion onto Burnside street is more than a little annoying --what with the obnoxious glass walls and lack of rain gutters-- now they've even taken to filming the innocent passersby...
The story of how a small, isolated nation, faced with mighty enemies and gigantic dangers, can demonstrate true greatness.

At last, a solution to police brutality!
Now is the time for unity, rage and action against these armed thugs the police. Occupation in the middle east, the build up of military bases in Latin America and the occupation of Turtle Island (North America)under this murderous state brings pain and suffering to billions everyday. The racist henchmen of the empire have killed another homeless disabled man in our town. We must come together in opposition to the ongoing murders. The killings by the police in Portland are inextricably tied to the murders in Afghanistan, Iraq, Columbia and everywhere else this empire has its hand.

After managing to avoid jail for 18 months (original arrest stems from an alcohol-induced incident in 2008), Ed Barnett was sentenced to 6 months behind bars for choosing Bhang to remain sober.
Dirty anarchists queers of Portland, OR, alongside other anarchists, have spent the last two nights in the streets exploring the rupture caused by the second murder by the Portland Police in as many months. We have been engaged in direct confrontation with the force of the police state while sharing our rage at our social conditions and the organized campaign of violence enacted upon our city by the armed enforcers of the Totality.
They really give up any pretense of objectivity.
Here are several thoughtful pieces on the Oscar Grant rebellion published by various groups in the Bay Area. I am publishing the links here in the hopes that anarchists and communists in Portland can learn form the failures and successes of the struggle in Oakland.
What looks like a big victory for Obama and the Democrats may be their greatest undoing. It's true that the passage of Obama's health care bill represents a significant political victory for the Democrats. But sometimes a battle won could equal a lost war.
It's telling that Obama had so much trouble in getting his own party to pass the bill on a simple majority basis: the bill was so blatantly watered down with the corporate hose that anyone with their name attached to it feared future electoral doom.
Excerpt from the largest libertarian website.
There has been another press release, saying that the man police shot had a "razor knife". Some in Portland (and there was at least one post on here to the effect) will say that the shooting was "justified". We as a community need to push the conversations about why some people can deescalate situations like this and that because cops are armed, their response is to shoot.
The main purpose of this article is to address the questions of strategy and tactics in the anarchist movement with specific reference to the roles
the Black Block tactic, and militant direct action play in our movement.

Howard Beale is the fictional protagonist of Paddy Chayevsky's 1979 drama, Network. In this film, the Beale character, played by Peter Finch, is a network news anchorman who is slated to be retired by his network due to failing ratings. In the midst of a midlife crisis, Beale, his tv career coming to an end, which was the only focus of his life's energies, is plunged into a state of despondency. Having a nervous breakdown, he issues a surprise announcement in the middle of the news show that he will be closing his next and final appearance as anchorman by blowing his brains out on national television. His boss at the tv network decides that he is obviously deranged and should be yanked from the air, but by a curious chain of circumstances, the network decides instead to keep him on and he soon becomes annointed as "Howard Beale, the Mad Prophet of the Airwaves, denouncing the lies and hypocrisies of our times." All goes well for Beale in his new role as the host of a top-rated new prime time tv show with a subversive, anticorporate and antiestablishment message, for a time...
This is a momentous day. Tonight I voted in favor of legislation that will extend health care coverage to 32 million Americans and reform our health care system. I dedicate this vote to you and thousands of Oregonians who I have met or who have called and written to me about your experience with our health care system with advice and counsel about changes that you wanted to see.

Quotes from "Rules for Radicals" (1971).
Fred Hansen, TriMet's $250,000 per year General Manager, announced he is quitting the transit agency after 11 years. Hansen was not asked by Oregonian reporters whether the 1,400 Transit Riders Union protestors who oppose 'transit shock doctrine,' austerity cutbacks, and fare hikes -- had anything to do with Hansen's exit.
The Definition of Israel Apartheid Week.
Israel Apartheid week is the week in which the Western campus Hitlerjugend demonstrate against and call for the destruction of the only Middle East country that is NOT an apartheid regime!

Nowadays a newspaper cannot be opened — or a TV turned on — without one being subjected to anti-teacher misinformation. The anti-teacher hysteria looks diverse on the surface, but underneath, this public controversy seeks to dislodge teachers unions: the right-wing trashes teachers' unions outright, while the "liberal" media takes a more subtle, sophisticated approach, blaming the state of public education on "bad teachers" who must be fired and replaced. Both styles are the same in essence.
Verily, if the origin of the word 'holocaust' meant 'whole' + 'burning' then surely the history of the persecution and killing of pagans and various heretical sects would qualify to this nomenclature? After all, how many supposed witches, were tortured and/or burned over the centuries? How many believers in the 'wrong' religions or denominations, according to those fanatics who thought themselves within 'thee' singularly right religion, were persecuted and murdered? We don't know any kind of exact number but it is a frightening reality to behold nevertheless.
After spending a few weeks in the Gaza Strip, Corrie described the Palestinians as "surrounded by murderous towers, tanks, armed 'settlements' and now a giant metal wall".

Julio Vasquez, a board member of notorious downtown slumlord, Central City Concern, was set to join an activist panel at a housing forum held at Sea Change Gallery but never showed up. Vasquez, in spring, 2009, defended the CCC board of directors refusing to let tenants attend board meetings (or speak at them) and the board minutes being secret.
In its Spring 2010 Newsletter and a recent article about Colorado Public Television, SPLC appears to be becoming a mouth piece for an out-of-control government.

A North American climate change strategy is moving forward which includes more emphasis being placed at a regional and local level. Protecting our planet has turned increasingly more political and profitable. Under the guise of safeguarding the environment, many solutions being offered are in the form of more taxes and more control over our lives.
I'm a friend of Kate's who just wanted this community to know that the woman missing at Table Mountain used this site for organizing and learning.
The point of sharing this is that the past teaches us things which are eternally relevant. What we call "primitive" we do always at our own detriment. For what its worth, simplicity is sometimes more powerful and can over come the complicated. What we are taught to value, we are taught to value it like an ideology. When the planet changes around us by our own "technology" we cherish, the lesson we least want to hear is that it is our belief in the technology, not the object itself which brings harm.
Is Hurt Locker winning the Oscar a right wing reaction to Avatar?
If you see a so-called "crime" think before you snitch. Someone close to you could be hurt or put in jail.
March 4 was historic. It will be remembered as the day that people began to fight back against the destruction of public education. The student and teacher led offensive took place in cities across the country; teachers, students and school workers demonstrated and marched, showcasing the aggressive methods of the struggle. San Francisco led the way with the biggest numbers. As many as 15,000 people, mostly students, teachers and social service workers attended a Civic Center rally organized by the three teachers unions and the San Francisco Labor Council.
This can only be the beginning. The war on public education has been carefully planned for years, orchestrated by corporate interests and implemented by Republicans and Democrats alike.
In addition to mandatory private health insurance premiums, we may soon be hit with a "mandatory savings" tax and other belt-tightening measures urged by the President's new budget task force.
On January 28th, Aaron Campbell, a young unarmed African-American was gunned down by the Portland Police Department. His tragic death is just one in a string of 'incidents' involving the death of minorities at the hands of an unaccountable and increasingly belligerent police force.
Americans need a good laugh. After eight years of Dubya, and one year of President Barack Obama, who prefers to be loved and not feared, a political spoof has arrived to save the day. It's Ted Venetoulis' fun-filled novel, "Hail to the Cheat." President Lance Billingsley gets caught by the First Lady, Jessica Berringer, "doing" her dear friend, Sondra Heatherstone, on the carpet and in the buff in the Oval Office! Fireworks quickly erupt!
