Strengthening U.S.-Canada Security Interests in North America and Around the Globe
More than ever, the U.S, and Canada share a more common approach to advancing security interests in not only North America, but around the globe. Under Prime Minister Stephen Harper, both countries have further deepened their defense relationship. In addition, Canada has pursued a more U.S.-style foreign policy.

The Need For Radicals To Say Goodbye To Occupy
Tonight's march and the division that occurred there highlight the fact that the occupy movement, at least in portland but likely across the nation, has gone into the realm of spending more energy promoting, and in many cases physically enforcing, their tactics, than creating any genuine momentum toward social change.

Egypt amidst bloody military repression, Islamist reaction and workers
Protesters in Cairo, Feb. 3 After the killings at the soccer match on February 1 at Port Said (74 deaths, mainly among supporters of the Al-Ahly club of Cairo), the "ultras", supporters of the teams from the capital whom, throughout the events of last year had fought many times the forces of repression, have accused the SCAF of premeditated killing.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: Alternative Movie Review
Predictable lamestream media reviewers had little to say about how The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is rife with current political, sociological, technological and religious implications. The movie is about a 24-year-old, gothic-punk-looking, cyberspace hacker, with an issue with men who have histories or sexual or violent predation. She is on a mission to right the world of a few rapists and killers. This is not a standard movie review. Plenty reviews already exist on the Internet for you to get the gist of the story and its characters. This critique is strictly in regards to the movie and is more about interesting political and social commentary in relation to the movie and some of its reviews.

Proxy War in Syria Threatens Catastrophe for Middle East
n an effort to undermine Iran by overthrowing its strategic ally, Syria, western nations are using their Middle East client states to conduct a multi-pronged attack against Syria through the media, the Arab League, the United Nations and now through military proxy forces. This fact is widely recognized by many mainstream western media sources. For example, the well-connected pro-western magazine, the Economist, casually states:

"Iran and Russia aide the [Syrian government] regime; Saudi Arabia and Turkey favor the rebels... Left alone, the rival camps will fuel a worsening conflict that could destabilize the entire region." (January 28, 2012).

A new society must be built outside of this one. By working "within the system," one is only integrating oneself further into the system. That's how the Ultramodern world works. Anything that expands or requires economic activity feeds the elitist system. This is what is expected of us. In order to create a healthier, nuturing future for ourselves and our descendants, we are going to have to create new lives outside of the realm of economics and alienation.

The State of the Union, 2012 disappoints many of us, but the official address is disturbing, if only for it's lack of reality contact. That's not the message we get from leaders around the world, all of whom are eager to work with us." There is evidence to the contrary, Mr. President, recently published.

Theory and Practice in Occupy
For a movement that started with one strategy and a couple of slogans, Occupy has preformed brilliantly. Having based itself on the examples of Egypt and Wisconsin, the Occupy Movement has raised the political consciousness of millions and created a large layer of new activists. But the uninterrupted string of successes of Egypt and Tunisia haven't materialized for Occupy. We're in a lull period. Next steps are being considered and some tactics are being re-thought.

Small but extremely effective (high ROI) attacks on the energy corridors leading to target regions, would quickly increase the costs of conventional energy such that clean power alternatives would become extremely attractive.

Occupy at a Crossroads: A Call for Mass Action Against the Suppression of the Occupy Movem
As a first step in the necessary response, there must be a massive political mobilization on a day, or days, very soon to say NO! to this attempt to suppress thought and expression with brutality and violence. This mobilization should most of all be in New York, where this movement started... but it should at the same time be powerfully echoed all around the country and yes, around the world. This is a call for massive demonstrations—soon—carried out in public spaces where they can have maximum impact and exposure and where the authorities cannot pen in, suppress, and otherwise attempt to marginalize these demonstrations.

The Threat of War Against Iran and Syria is Real
For those who think that the United States wouldn't possibly instigate another war in the Middle East, think again. Empowered by his "success" in the bombing of Libya and consequent assassination of Muammar Qaddafi, Obama is now seeking to use the exact same strategy against Syria, while using alarming military threats against Iran. In both cases the U.S. is creating the conditions for war in a region that is already boiling over from decades of U.S. backed dictators combined with past U.S. military aggression.

In Syria, the Libya war formula is being implemented with precision: in the name of protecting "human rights," the U.S. is enlisting the Arab League to open the gates for a U.S.-backed "coalition" of regional countries to implement a "no fly zone," i.e. war.

Numerous U.S. news outlets reported--without verification-- that protesters in Syria were "demanding a no fly zone" and an "Arab army" to invade and topple the Syrian government.

Longshore Workers, Truckers: Shut the Ports, Coast to Coast!
Following the nationally-coordinated police evictions last month of Occupy Wall Street and encampments across the country, on December 12 the Occupiers struck back. Ports up and down the West Coast were blockaded, from Seattle to San Diego. Despite a barrage of hostile propaganda in the media, opposition from union bureaucrats and heavy police repression in some places, overall the blockade was successful -- this time. The blockade was called in solidarity with longshore workers fighting a union-busting assault in Longview, Washington and port truckers seeking union recognition in the ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach. This support should have been greeted. But now the class war on the West Coast docks is coming to a head, and it can't be waged from the outside. Bay Area labor has called for a caravan to Longview. The goal should be a real occupation of the terminal by the workers to prevent the loading of the scab cargo. Longshore militants have called on the longshore unions to shut down every port on the West Coast, and the East and Gulf Coasts, to smash EGT's union-busting. Can it be done? Yes, but only though sharp struggle against the pro-capitalist labor bureaucracy.

But He Said That, So It's Okay
Trust is important for each of us as individuals. It helps to remind us of the good in the world and the potentials inherent therein. It reminds us to reach out to one another and that our very survival and perhaps the ability to be something more than just animals making it through each day moment to moment is there as a possibility waiting for us. It is what we have relied on throughout the ages to become strong as a species. It is how we built civilizations and still do today. We rely on each other and for more than just to know each member of the team is functioning correctly, but that there are people we rely on for more than work or to get a job done. There are people that help us grow as individuals and to do so we rely a great deal on trust to help the spark of human potential ignite.

Uniting Occupy and Labor Over Health Care
Politicians are attacking Medicare and Medicaid on all sides--Democrats and Republicans alike. Obama's national health care bill will slash hundreds of billions from Medicare over the next decade, an act supported by so-called "progressive" Democrats. Soon after this "victory" Obama created the Super Committee to balance the budget, which included automatic "triggers"-- if no decision was reached -- that are now slated to cut $600 billion more from Medicare.

On a state-by-state basis, Medicaid -- a program that provides health care to the poor -- is being cut in virtually every state, where they are using their manufactured budget crises as an excuse. This under-funding of Medicaid has created a lack of doctors for patients, according to USA today:

"With a shortage of doctors...[Medicaid] patients have little choice but to use hospital emergency rooms for more routine care." (July 5th, 2011).
