Thursday, June 19, the Commerce Committee will vote on legislation, S. 1046, to reverse some the FCC's rule changes. Our own Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden are on the Senate Commerce Committee!

By all accounts, the behind-the-scenes battle within the Bush
administration over just what information should be used, or spun, or
hidden, to make the case that Saddam Hussein posed an imminent threat to
America and the rest of the world was a knockdown, drag-out fight between
the facts and a zealous, highly politicized, "who needs proof?" mindset.
And, at the end of the day, the truth was left writhing on the floor.
I had to really dig to find some of these stories that were formerly listed on google, and now are completely gone. Even the search on Commondreams no longer lists the major anti-Dean stories - I had to go search imcs just to find one that someone reposted. That sort of thing alarms me, when sites are actively trying to lose all negative mention of someone.
Is Dean really worth all this just because he's pro-gay rights?? He's not an environmentalist (brought big box places to beautiful Vermont), he's against medical marijuana (a doctor!), he only decided to be against the war in Iraq when it became clear that the others he was up against would support it (so he could distinguish himself), he is a self-described pro-AIPAC Zionist, and he believes the Palestinian violence is not due to the occupation but to 'terrorism itself.'
Wake up Dean supporters! Switch to Green or vote Kucinich. Dean will sell us all out in a heartbeat. He only appears 'liberal' because Vermont voters forced him to be. Take a look at some of these stories, and decide for yourself.
"Many private American households have exhausted their credit limits with banks and credit card firms..The average debt service of a US household has reached a record of 14 percent of disposable income..Altogether the private debt of American households rose to an historic high of $1.7 trillion and the number of personal bankruptcies climbed around five percent last year..Very different signals are given to American consumers because no one knows the seriousness of the situation." You may already be aware that the Anthrax virus that was released through the U.S. Postal Service was less lethal than the original strain of Anthrax. But what you probably don't know is that it was sent out by a division of the C.D.C. (Center for Disease Control). If they are found out they have not only plausible deniability, but also can call it a test of their S.E.B.R.T. (Special Emergency Biological Response Team)
Libertarians advocate maximum liberty with minimum restrictions in any and all arenas of human activity. This sounds good, but carried to its logical extreme, it involves decriminalizing virtually every "vice" known to man.
The world will be watching and, since most of us aren't corporate fascists, we'll be rooting for you as you smash the WTO!

"Trade is the functional equivalent to force", Bolz says self-assuredly. Whoever pursues trade and consumes doesn't wage wars apart from weapons- and drug trade. Consumers as a rule are peace-loving beings. They don't hurl bombs, capture aircraft or cut the throats of others in two in God's name. Consumerism is the immune system of the world society against the virus of fanatical religions. This is the core thesis of the book..Economic success converts hostilities into customer relations." The real objectives of US foreign policy are vastly different from the propaganda that is fed to the American people, and peace is not one of these objectives.
It seems to me that forest activists, as well as anyone opposed to hierarchical organization, start to anylize the way "our" local campaign officese are RUNNING "our" forest defense campaigns. There is a fucking reason the Fall Creek has decided to seceed from CFD. There is a reason there is so much fucking tension between "town" people and "forest" people.
A recently posted picture of President Bush falling from a Segway on various news networks is strangely out of focus while all other photos from the same photo-op were sharp.

"The theologians of the Third World resist the deactivation of the Christian faith in its public and political dimension and the misuse of Christian faith for legitimating unjust structures. Therefore they focus on God's actions in history with the poor and oppressed as attested in the Old and New Testament. The `world of the poor' is seen as the place of God's presence, suffering with them and liberating them to struggle against injustice and oppression." Translated from the German
"Faith is produced most effectively", says church father Schlingensief, "where nothing is more urgent than unbelief in the parliaments, stock exchanges and television studios." The starting point of the Church of Fear is the confession of fear, the confession of one's own imperfection and vulnerability from which propagandists in all camps and sys3ems want to profit.

Multnomah County has been in a financial crisis since 2001. This year alone, $30 million has been cut from essential human and social services. Last week, the county announced that an additional $462,000 would be cut from an already reduced budget of $1.2 million for homeless youth services
On Thursday June 12th, 2003 at 9:30 am County Commissioners will be meeting to finalize the 2003-4 Multnomah County budget. Commissioners have stated that they strongly support the replacement of $100,000 of previously cut funds back into homeless youth services. Hundreds of workers from all parts of the social service industry, concerned citizens, homeless youth, community leaders, and supporters from the Industrial Workers of the World and Portland Survival will be gathering to participate in the meeting's public forum and to hold a rally to demand adequate funding, no job losses, and restored services. Workers welcome the return of partial funding, but are adamant that the County Commissioners are not taking the crisis seriously enough and that $100,000 is just a drop in the bucket. Workers will be assembling at 8:30am this morning at the Multnomah County building at 501 SE Hawthorne. [ Read More | www.portlandsurvival.com

The fact that almost all religions believe that nothing, not even a single space or a single entity, is capable of restricting God's existence is an obvious indication that sub-atomic particles are part of God.

The Issue of a Multnomah Public Utility District hasn't been discussed much on IMC of late. The issue will hit hard this fall. It's time for us Indymedia people to go over the issues and talk about them seriously. There's a lot to this proposal the agitators and signature gatherers don't know or don't want to address. Here are a few points of concern.
Africa's bloodiest walords of the 1990s vied for control of the continent's richest diamond fields, especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire) and the Kono district of Sierra Leone in West Africa. Engulfed by ensuing wars, local diamond traders profit...
Serious ethical questions are now being raised that Bush administration's intelligence seems to have been either faulty or manipulated.

Bush seen ready to denationalize Iraq's oil industry and start his colonial rule with a puppet regime parceling out drilling/producing contracts (and most profits) to friends/associates in British/American petroleum companies. Predictions he'll quickly undercut OPEC prices——especially the Saudi's Aramco operation.

Just a quick question... Is there currently any list of anarchist organizations, collectives, or places (community support centers, etc) in the Portland area? I think it would be neat to be able to have a map of Portland, with the buildings of anarchist activities ("liberated areas") highlighted.
