On the Human Right to Laziness
"Paul Lafargue spoke satirically about the first sinister acceleration thrusts of early industry: "All individual and social misery comes from a passion for work. O laziness, be merciful with your endless misery! O laziness, mother of the arts and the noble virtues, you are the balm for the pains of humanity!" However like all satires this should not be taken seriously." Translated from the German in the cyber journal Telepolis2001

U.S. Citizens Duped by Implausible Denial

"We live in a world of mutuality from which no one and no nation can steal away without damaging the whole and oneself. The tragedies in Israel/Palestine and September 11 made this clear..Is it normal when a president publically decares he is executing a divine will with the war against Iraq? Is it normal when he believes himself chosen with America to represent the good in the world and combat the evil with bombs and missiles? This obsession is a dangerous illusion that can only create discord." Translated from the German

"What has greater weight: the political culture of unselfish service to the whole or the Mafia maneuvering between the laws.. What I seek has the character of an ideal that we approach. This ideal is like a horizon. It shows us the direction but disappears again and again.. Very quickly and in peaceful ways, we took power from the hands of the totalitarian regime and dissolved its main instruments for ruling society." Vaclav Havel, president of Czechoslovakia for 13 years, receivged the German national prize on June 18, 2003.

Citizen Law Enforcement Protection Act
Currently the law reads that one can not tape record a police officer unless that officer has knowledge that the conversation is being recording. Under a new proposed law that would change completely and allow citizens to record police officers with or without their knowledge.

Even when you take a complaint to internal affairs about the actions of a police officer while in the scope of their duties, most of the "evidence" needs to be supplied by you when you make the complaint. However, the best evidence possible, a taped recording of the event, IE: traffic stop, stop and frisk, etc. could actually be used against YOU! That's right...this has happened to me personally, so I know how it goes. [ Read More ] [ www.portlandpolice.net ]
