A New Opium War
If you look at the changes in the political economy of Afghanistan, you may conclude that this is neither a "war on terror" that Washington says it is nor a pipeline war as some of its critics allege. It looks as if it is the latest Opium War, regardless of intentions of all parties (Afghans, Americans, Europeans, and others) involved.

Condi Rice vs. Cynthia McKinney: Why Do the Dems Want to Deny Her Seniority?
George Bush has nominated Condoleezza Rice to be his next Secretary of State and Cynthia McKinney has been reelected to the U.S. House of Representatives. For one, I'd love to see Rice go head to head on US foreign policy with Congressowman-elect Cynthia McKinney. But the only way any of us can see that happen is for Cynthia to regain her service and seniority on the House International Relations Committee (HIRC), which has jurisdiction over the State Department and our country's foreign policy. I can't think of any reason why the Democratic leadership wouldn't want this.

interview w/9-11 author Karl Schwarz 11.12.2004 05:46
More motive to destroy WTCs on 9-11: $120B gold debt due THAT DAY; & wargame software, more
JS: Our guest today, Karl Schwarz, author of the book, "One Way Ticket to Crawford Texas. Folks, if you want information that will, as I say, curl your nose hairs, the book itself is $24.95. It is 832 pages long. That is available on the website  http://www.rbnlive.com

"And it's not actually six articles, it's nine articles now because we continue to have witnesses come forward and just putting some incredible information in our laps."

"There was apparently a 300% increase in the insurance on the World Trade Center towers in June and July of 2001. I mean they increased the total insurance payable by 300%, at least. We also have put some information in Spitzer's hands that on 9/11 there was a $120 billion debt due (with a B) and that was tied to a gold collateralization and a Brady Bond deal and evidently it didn't close. Our sources have told us that who was closing that transaction was CANTOR FITZGERALD [almost totally lost their whole financial staff there, more than 100 financiers--only finance company experiencing such "loss", others pretty much OK] and that's the firm that took the biggest hit. They basically took a 767 right in their face."

KS: One of those hard drives was 99% plus recovered. And there was a file on that hard drive, titled "911. And I'm thinking that that may be computer from Cantor Fritzgerald and it may have had information. Now they claim, well we turned it over to the appropriate investigating authorities. And I said, well if you're talking about the DOJ and FBI, they are not going to investigate themselves. We have been trying to get them to release that same information to Elliot Spitzer because I think there is a smoking gun right there."

Rightwing mythologies of crime and policing
There is a widespread public perception in the US that violent crime is rampant and only the bold and dangerous work of police officers is protecting us from it. This perception is largely unsupported by facts. Perception of crime and danger has increased while actual incidence of crime has decreased. Sensationalistic media are to blame. The resulting public perception feeds would-be totalitarians in business and government.
