Tuesday Feb 14 7:30am until 12:00pm
Oregon Department of State Lands Office, 775 Summer Street, Salem!
Will you be our valentine?

Cascadia Forest Defenders are heading to Salem on the 14th to confront the State Land Board--Governor Kitzhaber, Secretary of State Kate Brown, and Treasurer Ted Wheeler-- about their direct hand in the destruction of Oregon's public forests.

In October, Governor Kitzhaber approved a plan that will nearly double the annual clear cut in the Elliott Rainforest, starting this year. On the 14th, the first land board meeting of 2012, the Governor will also approve the privatization of over 1,000 acres of public forest land in Southern Oregon. Privatization will leave the fate of sensitive wildlife in the hands of ravenous timber barons.

New Coalition to advocate for Universal Health Care in Oregon
Portland, Oregon - Delegates from 28 unions, nonprofits and grassroots organizations gathered in Portland on Friday, January 27, to form a new coalition that will advocate for universal health care in Oregon and the U.S. Seven labor unions joined with 21 community organizations to sign the membership agreement, approve bylaws, and elect an interim executive committee.

"The goal of the new coalition is to engage all communities across Oregon in a conversation about what we can and should expect from our health care system. We think providing universal access, as almost all other industrialized nations do, is the only truly humane and cost-effective system available. We need a broad and diverse coalition of organizations to help us understand how to take that message to all the constituencies we need to reach."—Michael Moore OSPC president, delegate from Sisters of the Road.

A new society must be built outside of this one. By working "within the system," one is only integrating oneself further into the system. That's how the Ultramodern world works. Anything that expands or requires economic activity feeds the elitist system. This is what is expected of us. In order to create a healthier, nuturing future for ourselves and our descendants, we are going to have to create new lives outside of the realm of economics and alienation.

LEGALIZE BARED FEET - THEY ARE HOLY! OCCUPY COTTAGE GROVE LIBRARY
Bare foot entry barred in the Cottage Grove public library. why is this, and so many other places? It seems nothing more than a prejudice, or fear of a liability. Occupy Olympia faces eviction
The statement from Occupy's unnamed "media team" says a 4 p.m. march and 10 p.m. assembly are planned "for camp defense and witness." It also says

The Occupy Movement manifested as a direct response to the social and economic injustices caused by a corrupt and heartless financial system. Occupy Olympia did not create the problems faced at camp. These are the same problems faced in communities around the country. Occupier Kyle Tanner states, "It's disappointing that the state chooses to continue to sweep the realities of budget cuts under the rug rather than face the systemic inequities." Since the early days of the occupation, Occupy Olympia has provided the community with free medical services, food, and shelter, all of which are needs the state has failed to meet. "While Occupy Olympia has been offering social services, it's important to remember that the Occupy Olympia encampment is, and continues to be, a political encampment. Any attempt to discredit that would be a false representation of what the Occupy movement is all about," states Occupier Owen Prout. Though the future of the physical camp may be uncertain, the community that camp has built will continue to fight the atrocities committed to benefit the 1%.
