Street Performing: Using Buildings and Awnings as Microphones
Kirsten singing with Seattle Swing on streets Acoustic street singing is very different than inside singing, or even singing with amplification via mics. It sounds odd, but I use buildings and awnings as microphones. I have learned how to aim my voice at different angles off of nearby surfaces and structures to naturally amplify it. People who sing on the street without enough projection are rendered useless fast. I am talking about using structures to fine tune loudness and tone on the street.

Is the Green Scare really regional chauvanism?
If you look at who and where most of the arrests occur in the Green Scare most seem to be targetted in the Pacific Northwest. Of course the witch trials against ecologically minded people everywhere is wrong, but is this also specifically targetting Pacific Northwesterners? This is again not claim other regions does not have activism and some of the charges include charges in South Dakota and New Jersey. But after the WTO protest in Seattle are we really looking at regional warfare? At regional chauvanism? At a legal silent war against the people of the Pacific Northwest?

Mike's Gulch Roadless Logging: Scorned, Sold and Sued

http://o2collective.org/archives/IMGP2205.jpg

June 9 - Medford, OR - Two major victories were scored today for Mike's Gulch, a threatened forest in Oregon's largest roadless area, the South Kalmiopsis. The area's Congressman clearly stated his opposition to logging and the State's Governor announced he is filing a lawsuit in Federal Court to block the sale.

Only one week ago the Bush Administration announced they were selling timber in a roadless forest for the first time since overturning the Clinton-era rule protecting 59 million acres of roadless forests from logging. People across the country quickly moved to be heard and to convince the two public officials to take serious action in favor of wildland protections.

Forest lovers are celebrating today because it worked.

In announcing his decision to seek a temporary restraining oorder to halt logging, Governor Kulongoski said, "this timber sale, coming four years after the Biscuit Fire occurred, is unneeded and unwise. Opening this particular roadless area to salvage logging now ? when we are in the process of preparing a petition to the federal government on the proper management of those areas- contradicts the assurances the Bush Administration has made that the governors' opinions on such issues will be respected."

Is this guy RICHER than GATES, more POWERFUL than BUSH?
Diamond Dave Much of the wealth of America's super rich is hidden behind endowments and private institutions through which they control money that they otherwise have no use for. Many men in the world listed as low-level billionaires are actually worth much, much more. At the height of John D. Rockefeller's wealth (around 1920), he had the equivalent of $1.5 trillion dollars in todays world. In addition to the various wealth-hiding schemes that America's super rich have continued to build upon through the Legislatures they buy, are the Swiss Bank Accounts, where old money matures for centuries.

Roadless Red Alert!
Imminent Logging Threatens Oregon's Largest Roadless Area

Breaking news: The Bush administration is planning to auction the controversial Mike's Gulch roadless logging project this Friday, June 9th. Logging could begin within days after the auction.

The Mike's Gulch timber sale would saw into the largest roadless forest in Oregon: the 105,000-acre South Kalmiopsis Roadless Area. In addition to harming the South Kalmiopsis, Mike's Gulch would set a dangerous national precedent by logging roadless forests for the first time since the 2001 Roadless Rule was approved.

Moving Beyond Tolerance to Respect
In a personal revelation today, I realized it is not enough to just "tolerate" our differences. Although many activist organizations proclaim "tolerance" as their motto, "tolerance" is really not enough to secure peace. "Respect" is one step beyond "tolerance," and true peace on earth, and in our communities, requires respect. Or as Einstein said, "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
