The Campaign to Stop Funding Hate urges donors to make an informed decision about how they want their contributions channeled and ask all those committed to broad values of secularism, pluralism and justice to oppose the forces that use the pretext of relief operations to further their sectarian agendas.
Letter to U.S. Atty. Gen'l. made public this morning by Rep. John Conyers:
The disaster in New Orleans has created an opportunity for land speculators and developers alike, much in the way corporations see the third world.
Sept. 16, 2005
While the world has been falling all over itself to remember the victims of 9-11 and digging deep in its pockets to aid the wealthiest nation on the planet recovering from a natural disaster, a ferocious man-made onslaught on a town in northeast Iraq is being virtually ignored.
This is yet one more example of the double standards prevalent today when the color of your passport can determine your worth as a human being.
We saw this discrepancy recently when 1,000 Iraqis—mainly women and children—who lost their lives on a Baghdad bridge were a mere footnote in the Western media.
And we are witnessing this discrepancy now as our screens fill with images of Hurricane Katrina and 9-11 commemoration ceremonies with next to nothing about the horrors of Tal Afar, a stricken town in northeast Iraq, accused of harboring insurgents.
The Bush administration plans to use the disaster in the Gulf to push through a trojan horse containing all the right wing economic policies previously touted over the last five years by this regime. However, in order for the plan to succeed Americans must be willing to fight a superpower, with superior air power.
The tally from hurricane katrina is being suppressed and will take time know.
The death toll appears alot like a presidential pre-election poll. You do the calculation and get one number and a quite different number is
reported by the media.
On September 15, Vinny and I were driving around Algiers to determine the reception quality of 94.5 FM, the Battle for Algiers. Next thing we knew, we were on the Mississippi River Bridge headed to downtown New Orleans.
The situation in Algiers got a bit more surreal this week when the U.S. military asked the anarchists for help in providing basic services to local residents. A medical military clinic commander asked the folks running the Common Ground Clinic if they could lend a few medics and doctors to the military until the military sets up a "permanent" health clinic on Newton Avenue on Monday.
Infoshop News talked to Michael Kozart, a doctor at San Francisco General Hospital, who is volunteering at the Common Ground Clinic.
"Why aren't you all [the military] helping us transport people to the medical center? Why don't you provide us with some of the generic drugs that you are paying for with donations? Why doesn't the military help us with funds? Why don't your provide some of your personnel so we can train them is some basic medical care?
Saturday from 11-4 come enjoy a FREE concert in Kelley Park at 42d and Sandy. Donations will be taken for VFP relief activities in Louisiana
Katrina is being used as a pretext to destroy local cooperation and extend the reach of the Federal government.
This is nearly a re=post to point out that the media is covering up the death count.
Just an observation of some facts about the federal Katrina Response, numbers taken from Newsweek.
As we drew closer to the ward, we began to see large "x"s spray painted on the sides of every house. In each quadrant of the X were written letters and numbers. In the top it read "9-6." To the left, "TX-1." To the right, "NE." At the bottom, "1." We correctly guessed that these symbols we the record of a search conducted by the military or other government agencies. The top obviously represented the date of the search. The left, the unit who conducted it. The right was a code for the type of contamination found within. The bottom number told the grim tale of how many bodies were found. Again, these were on every house.
Hurricane Katrina not only flooded a city and flattened a coast. She also blew away the thick curtain our nation had drawn across our most poor.
With each passing day, the immense scale of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina emerges more clearly, along with the enormity of the effort required to rebuild homes and social infrastructure for nearly two million people. Nearly 700 bodies have been recovered so far, and the death toll seems certain to mount into the thousands as houses cut off by high water become accessible to search crews.
This is reposted from one of the Rainbow lists I'm on. We in the Rainbow family of Living Light are accustomed to feeding thousands at our annual Gatherings for World Peace and Healing that have been held since 1971 in the National Forests and Globally. These are an excercise in creating intentional community, and small villages of over 10,000 people are created in the forests for a couple weeks. So naturally in keeping with our love for serving each other, and in the spirit of creating community through participatory democracy, some buses with filtration systems and kitchen supplies have gone to help out, and anyone and everyone is welcome to lend a hand with medical efforts and providing warm meals.
Volunteers are needed and welcomed, for those who want to help out with Mississippi relief efforts. If you've helped with FNB, then you are well-suited to help out and your help would be much appreciated.
For more info about Rainbow go to: www.welcomehome.org.
To donate to our medical and food efforts, go to: link to tinyurl.com - these all go to the same place.
A media awash in Katrina stories had no time for a poor black woman being killed by the state in Texas after being railroaded onto death row for a crime she probably never committed.
On September 14, I visited the Common Ground Wellness Center at 1401 Teche St. in Algiers, New Orleans and had the opportunity to speak with Noah, a volunteer medic from Providence, Rhode Island. (22:02 minutes / 9.4 MB)
This goes on about the tentative similar parallel to alleged gangster connected Hertz who just bought up 25% of New Orleans--and how he is allged to be connected to the Israeli and Colombian Drug Cartels. That goes well with the more well known Bush/Israeli/Lansky/Malnik/ mafia connections--only one remove from George H. W. Bush.
It doesn't take a detective to note that if Hertz has alleged links to Israeli mafia and drug smuggling money laundering into real estate, and that the Bush ties into this very nexus of Israeli mafia are more well known, that the aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina disaster may have been well planned out at least 26 months in advance, when Hertz began to buy up 25% of New Orleans. Is this a Bush redevelopment operation outsourced to Hertz?
And if it is a PRELIMINARY buy-up, that makes the hurricane even more sinister if a HAARP attack was planned out with urban renewal in the same cold blooded breath. After all, Hurricane Katrina was heading directly across the Gulf of Mexico, until, screech, it makes a 90 right turn dead toward New Orleans when it gets directly south of it.
Black Sabbath's War Pigs
"Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.
Oh lord, yeah! "
Was any of the news coming from the corporate media accurate with regard to New Orleans? This article raises issues surrounding looting (black men with guns getting supplies for those who need them), gangs (armed white vigilante groups), police (lying about busses and detouring people to prevent protest), and the future of New Orleans. Will the rich rebuild the city with "fewer poor people" paid with taxpayer dollars funneled into the pockets of the corporate cronies of the Bush administration? Or will something far more important take place as the communities choose their own path for the city. --tc
Three fundamental things to be learned from what has been happening, including the role of the government, in relation to hurricane Katrina
It's ironic how much politicians and the mass media in the US and its client states resemble that of the former Soviet Union.
On September 13, the Common Ground collective in Algiers, New Orleans began the day with a meeting to discuss everything from staying healthy to the difference between martial law and a state of emergency. A medic at the wellness center said that the best way to maintain to the health of the community is be sure that everyone washes their hands often and to not share plates and utensils.
Hey Everyone, This is Michael K writing from Algiers in New Orleans. We have had a tremendous outpouring of support, in terms of materials and spirit, from from folks in the immediate community, the local region, and nation-wide. The main concern now is for medical personal who can prescribe meds. Under the Louisiana state of emergency, all MDs who have active medical licenses in their home state have instant prescribing privileges here in Louisiana--simply bring copies of your license and DEA. I am not sure if this applies to NPs--could someone check on this? I will have to leave Saturday or Sunday, and at this time, I've been the only physician regularly working in the clinic...We desperately need a prescribing clinician to be able to commit to being here for a bit of time...
So why do we have a Department of Homeland Security?

A partnership between hip-hop artists and activists formed to do what we need to do.
It's way past time to demand a total manufacturer's recall on the world's first Animatronic Presidency. I know, the voters lost their chance in 2004 when they let the limited four year product warranty expire. However, that limited warranty does NOT apply to life-threatening defects in parts and workmanship or willful negligence on the part of the Manufacturer.
In this case, the defects have proven quite lethal, en masse, and the
workmanship shoddy and fatally flawed. At first, it was lethal only to
innocent bystanders (upwards of a hundred thousand in Iraq,
Afghanistan, etc), but now, it has proven highly lethal to thousands of
the end users themselves (the Gulf Coast, among other places).
Who and how many have died in the hurricane and its aftermath in New Orleans(NO)?
On September 12, Vinny, Blank and I arrived in New Orleans. We are staying in the Algiers neighborhood. Community members and volunteers from coast to coast and Europe, are providing people in New Orleans with food, medical aid and health supplies.
Rumors are swelling that Spike Lee and Eddie Murphy have snuck into New Orleans with a camera crew to document what is really happening in the historic flooded city. One source even went on to say that Eddie Murphy boasted about talking to Geraldo Rivera without him even knowing it!
"Doctors working in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans killed critically ill patients rather than leaving them to die in agony as they evacuated hospitals,"
Things that make you go hmmmm....very interesting.
Yesterday, two Imcistia's and I from the west coast arrived from in Algiers, a neighborhood in New Orleans Louisiana.
The abject failure of American capitalist society in face of the human tragedy in New Orleans, and the disaster's exposure of the stark social polarization in the US, have proven deeply unsettling for the ruling elite and the more comfortable sections of the upper middle class.

I've got to keep on walking.

In a shameless display of a brutal class policy, President Bush on Thursday suspended the provisions of a law that requires employers to pay the locally prevailing wage to workers on federally financed projects. The suspension applies to areas of the country devastated by Hurricane Katrina—parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
Hurricane katrina Natural disaster made worse through lack of Bush Federal funding to levees. A hurricane became a flood and more lives were lost. Poverty meant the hard working, minimum wage low paid workers and vulnerable people of New Orleans could not afford to save their lives by leaving town.
"Although white, middle-class Americans seem to be in denial over what has taken place in New Orleans; many black Americans seem to fully grasp its meaning."
Briefly, but dramatically, the political failures that turned New Orleans and many other Gulf cities and towns into a human catastrophe, shattered the bonds of conformity between the mass media and the government. Critical reporters described the failure of the government's Homeland Security to evacuate vulnerable poor people and the absence of basic food and water for the victims. The media contrasted Bush partying with Republican cronies in California, Vice President Chaney on the golfing green, Secretary of State Rice shopping in Manhattan and Homeland Security boss Chertoff claiming that disaster relief was in excellent shape with the cries of desperation and destitution of tens of thousands of poverty-stricken and hungry African Americans and poor whites barely surviving in a dark, filthy convention center and sports arena.
It seems to me that we have reached that place in our endeavors in our so-called civilization where a great many grand contradictions have lined up and are in full view of the global public.
Two friends of mine--paramedics attending a conference--were trapped in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. This is their eyewitness report. PG
The police/military troops are kicking in doors and
dragging people out by gunpoint.
No "due process".
The terrible tragedy of New Orleans is very moving. Here are some thoughts with links to related artcles. 4 photos are attached.
Here is some information I have been meaning to get out. There is a lot going on here in Houston and in the Astrodome. Here is some general information about what has and is going on at the moment here in Houston Texas, in and around the Astrodome.
Call me crazy.... But I have a feeling that lots of the money going to the Red Cross is being used to rebuild Iraq.
Attached is a copy of their charter (copied from their web site)
"...no one is trying to find out.":
"...US sources spelt out the extent of the danger from one of America's most polluted industrial areas, known locally as "Cancer Alley". The 66 chemical plants, refineries and petroleum storage depots churn out 600m lb of toxic waste each year. Other dangerous substances are in site storage tanks or at the port of New Orleans. No one knows how much pollution has escaped through damaged plants and leaking pipes into the "toxic gumbo" now drowning the city. Mr Kaufman says no one is trying to find out."
Congress is temporarily softening the bankruptcy bill and postponing Medicaid cuts, afraid to look mean to Katrina survivors, but when the waters have subsided, they'll go back to screwing the poor as usual.
These photos are from the very early morning hours of September 10.
No one has to obey an unConstitutional order. Got that National Guard?

Statement by the Free Arab Voice and the North American Committee Against Zionism and Imperialism (NACAZAI)
The actions of the Bush regime in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast amount to mass murder, whether by incompetence or design. This is an urgent situation, calling out for urgent action.
