The same message will also be displayed at demonstrations in the Los Angeles area on Saturday. Members of Veterans for Peace (VFP) chose the Archives for their nonviolent protest because it is symbolic of their military oath to "defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." In September they occupied the Archives for 24 hours, and plan to stay longer this time. "The offenses of Bush, Cheney, and their accomplices are appalling," said Kim Carlyle, a VFP member and Army veteran. "Their misdeeds have killed or maimed more than a million people - American soldiers, innocent civilian children, women, and men. They have displaced almost five million people, with millions seeking refuge in other countries. Their total disregard for international agreements has severely tarnished the reputation of America in the world. Their unlawful wars have squandered billions of dollars that could have bolstered a troubled economy." http://www.vfpchapter72.org

Featuring first-person accounts and footage from more than forty cameras on the streets, 'Terrorizing Dissent' focuses on the story of dissent suppressed. People charged with "conspiracy to riot in furtherance of terrorism" speak out against the government's campaign to manipulate media coverage and label civil disobedience and community organizing as terrorism. 'Terrorizing Dissent' shows the results of the $50 million dollars the Department of Homeland Security gave to local authorities for security & a large chunk of which went to weaponize the police & and the $10 million insurance policy contract between the RNC Host Committee and the City of St. Paul, which shattered Minnesota's civil compact between protesters and police. Portland Anti-imperialists are proud to show Terrorizing Dissent at the Red and Black Cafe (400 SE 12th Ave) on November 11 at 7pm. After the video, stay for Q&A from those who were there
"The incoming Obama Administration's plan for the environment, or lack thereof, may very well influence the activities of the Earth Liberation Front throughout the next four years," stated Lisa Nesbitt, one of four new press officers for the NAELFPO. "The $150 million in damages caused by the ELF in the last decade to environmentally destructive corporations was, in part, a direct response to the refusal of the U.S. Government to take necessary measures to stop environmental destruction." "The U.S. Government has refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol, refused to permanently protect the Artic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), refused to stop the logging of national forests, and refused to heighten the Energy Act standards for light cars, trucks and commercial vehicles - the greatest contributor to global warming," Nesbitt continued. "We have one message for the incoming Obama Administration: act to protect the environment or the ELF will."
From the open publishing newswire:
This is the moment where we will see what Obama really stands for. it is the big test before being the president. I believe if we really wish to see change we need to push this administration towards the "left" in e-mails, phone calls, letters and rallies. he claims he wants to hear our voice... then make it loud and clear that we do not support corporatism. We do not want a Georgie Bush or a Billy Clinton in power ever again. After he is sworn in I believe the biggest test as president is to push an investigation and arrest of the war criminals currently in office.
But I am a realist and believe he will be another Clinton guiding the sheeple back into a quietly accepting the Corporatist Agenda
From the open publishing newswire:
Gloom and Doom-----The pillars of the U.S. capitalist economy are crumbling and falling all around us while the federal government frantically races from one crisis to another, throwing money at them as if throwing water on a fire. It could well turn out that the money represents only a few drops of water thrown on threatening flames that will soon billow into an out-of-control wildfire so that nothing President-elect Barak Obama has proposed will succeed in averting the disaster.
The effects were immediately noticeable. As soon as the election was called the diversity of news staff was suddenly corrected. The faces of respected african american people were everywhere. Issues facing people of color were given their proper place in the spotlight. May you all take full due advantage of that. However, like Obama said in his acceptance speech, he is only one man. He cannot possibly live up to all that is expected of him.

Please show solidarity with those still trapped within the St. Paul courts... Below is a petition to dismiss the charges against the RNC 8. Once it reaches 100,000 signatures it will be sent to the Ramsey County Attorney, Susan Gaertner. Please take a couple minutes to fill it out.
["]We the undersigned call for the dismissal of the charge of "Conspiracy to Riot in Furtherance of Terrorism," which you have filed against the RNC 8, activists involved in organizing protests at the 2008 Republican National Convention. This use of a conspiracy charge seeks to punish political speech and thought. Labeling these members of our community as "terrorists" sets a dangerous national precedent for persecuting political activists, threatens political dissent, and greatly distorts the concepts of violence and terrorism. We demand the dismissal of these charges and condemn the use of police state tactics of infiltration, surveillance, and militarization of our streets and community to suppress demonstrations and dissent.["] http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/defendthernc8
From the open publishing newswire:
Bill Clinton's Presidency is a necessary place to start when trying to understand Obama's approach to the unions. Many workers were rightfully skeptical of Clinton the moment he announced his intentions to run for President he was Governor of a 'Right To Work' state and was notorious for siding with management on major labor disputes. Many unions refused to support him until he successfully secured the Democratic nomination, where he was mystically transformed into the "lesser of two evils".
But it's hard to imagine a greater evil to labor than Bill Clinton.
Contrary to my preconceptions about Winter Soldier, it is a beyond profound movement. This is where the resistance resides, an invisible undercurrent of humans of all kinds infecting this society with slow intensity. The first Neo-Winter-Soldier event took place in Silver Spring, Maryland, March 13 to March 16, 2008, timed to highlight the 5th anniversary of the 2003 invasion. REPORT-BACK Some 200/300 people showed up. Many elderly, a definite lack in youth presence. First panel - on stage - there we saw youth. Amongst the shattered humans on that panel, nine men, as different from one another as can be imagined - a display of the beauty of humanity right there. Each brought their story, their confessions, their way of talking, seeing, feeling - straight shooters. Nothing but being there, in the flesh, can enable a person to grasp the enormity of the all-encompassing spectacle of war; we gotta own it, our wars. Radio, television, any intermediary form is an obstruction to the process of learning with something like this. Background, I believe that all but one fellow on the panel was seventeen or eighteen years of age when they joined the services, including National Guard. Below, I've provided a few bits, from just a few people.
I was able to film a 20 min interview with war resister Camilo Mejia This is part 1 of 2 videos http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1710570325499517913
In this clip (#1) Camilo talks about his life and activism with war resisting There is also a gallery reception going on that is an exhibit of pictures from Iraq and of soldiers who were there or still are. Camilo Mejia, a National Guard staff sergeant who after fighting for five months in Iraq, became the first combat soldier to refuse to go back to Iraq. He spent 9 months in prison for resisting. He now serves as Chair of the Board of Iraq Veterans Against the War and is the author of Road from ar Ramadi. He is now a IVAW activist and strong advocate for peace.
