![]() We would need about 200 or so square feet, in a dry basement, garage, or extra room in the house---also open to office space or space in a church, community room etc. Because we are a non-profit, the space could be considered an "in kind" donation for a tax write-off. Please CALL (503) 249-6343 if you might know of an available space. We would need the space twice a month for our mailing nights (first and third Weds of every month) and occasional access to drop books off. Close-in east side would be ideal but we are open to (most!)anything. Thanks!!

Books to Prisoners is needing a few more volunteers! Help inspire and educate our brothers and sisters behind bars!
Portland Books to Prisoners is an all volunteer group meeting twice a month for "mailing nights". We could use some volunteers to help with answering letters, filling orders, wrapping packages and sending them out (U.S. postal service). Any kind of fund-raising ideas are also appreciated, as are tax-deductible donations, and book donations--mostly paperbacks as hardback are expensive to mail out. Paperback dictionaries are always a big request. We are also open to being in a new space if anyone knows of a space we could use that is close-in east side (dry basement or garage, church basement, etc.) The next mailing night is this Wednesday, March 18th from 5:30-8:00! WHAT: B2P mailing nights WHERE: in the basement of the Red and Black Cafe (400 S.E. 12th, and Oak) come through the gate around back--look for the sign... WHEN: First and third Wednesdays of every month Contact: (503) 249-6343 for more info.
![]() The Bad Egg Books Infoshop (aka Eugene Infoshop) is based out of the Boreal, a volunteer-run, all-ages music venue in Eugene, Oregon. The Boreal started in January 2014 and since late May/early June, Bad Egg Books Infoshop has been a work-in-progress. We still have work to do, but we figured at this point it would be great to inform the wider community about this project.

From the open publishing newswire:
Last week, the Portland Public Schools announced its plans to close another school in Jefferson Cluster in North and Northeast Portland. Jefferson cluster has been systematically undermined by the district by the transfer policy, and constant school-closures, re-configuration, and lack of support. Last year, two schools (Tubman and Humbolt) were closed suddenly, without any discussion or community process. While the district justifies these closures by under-enrollment, it allows half the students who live in the cluster to transfer elsewhere. While most of the families who live in Jefferson Cluster are white, the vast majority of the students in our schools are of color. The district's transfer policy has created a segregated school system, and its plans for "balancing" the cluster will only intensify this problem.
The students and families of Jefferson cluster have been underserved by our school district for decades, and it is time for this to stop. https://www.facebook.com/events/571009122928362/ Please come to rally for Jefferson Cluster Schools! Saturday, January 26, 12:00pm Jefferson High School, N Killingsworth and Kerby Bring signs, make noise! Tell your friends! ![]() On 6.11.12, a protest rally was held at Pioneer Square in solidarity with Canadian students who are protesting extreme tuition hikes and interest rate increases in Universities across Canada. What an inspiring action presented by Occupy Portland in Portlands' living room, Pioneer Square. Around 250 people showed up for the Facebook event created to bring solidarity with the students in Canada who are protesting in the thousands for education reform, as tuition rate increases are three times ours and interest rates are insane. This local rally showed the world and Canada that we are in support of the universal mission to lower the cost of higher education and increase the worth of degrees to actually make the academic investment worth it. Great speeches were given by students and former students who were heavily affected by the debt they incurred while attending school. A contest was held to see who had the highest student debt, and a woman with 111,0000 dollars of debt took the crown. The frustration was seen in the faces of the many that decided to get up, grab the bull horn and tell their story. A visiting student from Montreal Canada just happened to be in Portland and spoke of how appreciative he is of all the solidarity that Portland is bringing to this issue.
