America is imposing a "Code of Conduct" for the newly liberated Iraqi Media which will prevent "hateful and destabilizing messages" from being propagated on the airwaves or through the presses of liberated Iraq. Soon the Iraqi people will be able to enjoy an In-bedded media much like the Sheeple of America are privileged to enjoy! Can a FOX NEWS IRAQ or CLEAR CHANNEL IRAQ be far on the horizon?
A very perceptive analysis of the techniques with which the corporate media manipulate public opinion. Written by the author of many fine books on politics, Dr. Michael Parenti.

dispelling corporate induced divisiveness
Nick Gilespie writes in the LA Times:

"With few exceptions, whether broadcast and cable television, video, music, publishing or news, we have a far wider range of choices available to us than we did 10, 20 or 30 years ago. Even content providers with near-monopoly power recognize that audiences will go elsewhere if they are not offered the material or service they want at an acceptable price."
Is he smoking crack, or what?
Despite the mounting opposition supporters of media deregulation, like the libertarian Cato Institute, called the changes "incremental" and "modest."
Random scrambling of posts?
Dan Hortsch, the "Public Editor" of the Oregonian, writes a lengthy article, reposted below, in which he calls for the Police Bureau to start showing some "candor" in public statements regarding the Kendra James police homicide. I take issue with Mr. Hortsch's call for "candor", as his paper rarely shows any in reportage on police matters.
pepperface media hub update for week ending 06.06.03
Ironically, a station owned by the largest radio chain in the United States is giving Hughes what he couldn't get from a Public Radio station: complete creative control.

A formal essay written for Portland Indymedia to systematically address serious logic and reasoning flaws in the latest of Emma Goldwoman's vitriolic pseudo-academic essays.
Local Clear Channel Station Seeking Portland War Protestors
Join Us!!! Code Pink of Portland is initiating an action in front of Clear Channel at 4949 S.W. Macadam Ave. at 4:30 on Thursday, May 29th, the national day of protest against the proposed FCC rulings.
As told by a "Fly on the Wall" who bore witness.
Please call the following FCC Commissioners and your Senators TODAY and tell them "No more Clear Channels! No to the proposed media deregulation!"
Presidential Candidate Howard Dean today wrote to FCC Chairman Michael Powell, urging the FCC to avoid further deregulation of the American media. The text of the letter:
"Being a libertarian may be a step in the direction of conservatism, but being a Libertarian puts me in the pocket of people out to kill me."
Urgent Question: Does anyone remember the details of a story about a small town in Montana? I heard there was some kind of local emergency (possibly a chemical spill?) requiring an emergency alert radio broadcast. When they called the local radio station (owned by Clear Channel) there was NO ONE THERE - the entire radio station was automated and run by CC from a distance - and the emergency broadcast could not be made.
Please reply to email@example.com
It says us guys are welcome at the "Pink is optional" Code Pink protest against FCC move for even MORE media monopoly. Protest takes place at the local offices of Clear Channel this Thursday (05-29-03) at 4:30 pm --- 4949 SW Macadam Avenue.
I don't advocate watching corporate media. For the most part, it's poison and lies. But, since I have soundly criticized channel 8 in the past for their slanted coverage and their strongarm tactics -- bringing body guards to protests! -- I want to take a moment to recognize an anomalous event. Some coverage that was actually balanced!
Pepperface update of audio news features and articles for Week Ending - 05.30.03
tonight may 24 th at 7pm we will watch the 1968 film black history lost stolen or strayed- and then we will discuss it. the film is excellent and very heavy and the discussion promises to be the same.
"Defense officials said on Friday the Pentagon was insulted by media claims the rescue of Jessica Lynch in Iraq was hyped to boost support for the war... 'The thing that is most insulting is the suggestion that we would put U.S. service members at risk to stage such an event. This was a real rescue under a combat situation"'"...
(Staged rescues are riskier than real ones?!?!? Since when?)
Democracy is about doing better. It's about fairness, justice, human rights, and yes, it's about equality, too; look it up.
Holly crap.... I'm soooo suprised.
From the Code Pink Website, Thursday May 29th ( a week from now ) Code Pink will be demonstrating against the FCC at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Clear Channel Offices at 4949 SW Macadam Avenue (wish I had a clue where that was or what bus gets you there)
And later in the evening there will be a celebration focused around activist Emma Goldman at In Other Words
THOUGH MANY had anticipated a cakewalk for the media in undermining the war on terrorism, instead liberals are caught in a quagmire of good news about the war. Predictions that liberals would have an easy time embarrassing President Bush have met unexpected resistance. They're still looking for the bad news they said was there.

This is a message that I received from the Dennis Kucinich Presidential Campaign. I am inspired by this man. I hope you will be too. He presents a great opportunity for the "developed world" to move in a different direction. At the very least, he presents an opportuntiy to challenge the self destructive policies of the corporate fudamentalist members of the "Democratic" party.
Latest round of WMD "evidence" revealed. Left with more questions than answers.
Case in point: perfect example of opb's tecnique of deleting an alternative
opinion by fabricating a counterpoint within the constrains of one side of an argument:
Yeah, even though the mainstream media is mostly monopolzed already, and it seems like there's no hope to ever change that fact... still, ... at least 2 dozen radio stations in Portland are owned by 2 companies, clear channel being one of them, another out of philly being another... local musicians don't have a chance when this happens to radio.. and this regulation allows more than one kind of media to be owned by one corporation... takes a few seconds to go to www.mediareform.net .... go ahead, might make a difference...
What is it going to take;
WHAT is it going to take?
The people they kill
The Bank that they break ...
WHAT is GOING to TAKE !
She has amnesia?? how convenient!
In the 1998 film "Wag the Dog," political operatives employ special editing techniques to create phony footage that will engender public sympathy for a manufactured war. Now we find that in 2003 the real-life Pentagon's ability and willingness to manipulate the facts make Hollywood's story lines look tame.
Why Ari Should Have Resigned in Protest
At the White House today, Ari Fleischer announced that he will resign as press secretary to President Bush effective in July. Ari says he has spent 21 years in government, he never intended to spend the rest of his life in government, he's recently married and wants to spend some time with his wife, he wants to do some speaking and writing and take it a little easier.
I emailed KOIN 6 this weekend asking about the mug-shot they keep using with the Kendra James story -
"News coverage of the Madrid discovery has been virtually nonexistent in this country. The news broke quietly on Feb 29, 2000 with a story that ran once on the UPI wire about the Nature Medicine article."
Raymond Cushing is a journalist, musician and filmmaker. This article was named by Project Censored as a "top Censored Story of 2000" and was reprinted in The Rearguard, May 9, 2003.
So a reporter got caught lying, cheating, and plagerizing? Big Deal. How about something new?
The image of a boy shot dead in his helpless father's arms during an Israeli confrontation with Palestinians has become the Pietŕ of the Arab world. This evidence isn't meant to change minds—but the episode itself offers an object lesson in the incendiary power of an icon.
A short talk about media, recorded from Pacifica Peachwatch
1. Corporate media infiltration
2. Counter-propaganda (even getting the public to believe LIES to HURT those who have hijacked our country) - beat the bad man at his own game.
3. Abolishment of political parties
4. Full acountability of public service workers (politicians)
United States Ambassador to Venezuela, Charles Shapiro, hosted a party in which used "freedom of expression" as an excuse to ridicule President Chavez and to express a desire for "better relations" between Venezuela and the government of George W. Bush.
Apparently the News editor at KOIN 6 is asleep at the switch
Sloppy unprofessional reporting at best!
an erudite comment on America's escalating Christian fascist police state, tracing how we got here ...
Helen Thomas is a longtime and highly respected White House correspondent who was sent to the back of the room for daring to question Ari Fleischer about W and the Iraq invasion.
The Club for Growth strong-arm tactics forces moderate Republicans to back a conservative, pro-wealth. Non-republicans deemed dangerous are treated less delicately. Just ask family farmers like Dennis Wiese, president of South Dakota Farmers Union, whom the Club views as being "welfare dependant."
Ever notice all the pro-American Iraqis all seem to be the same dozen guys, recycled over and over again?
Use the Internet to educate and to help stop the FCC's plans for media consolidation!
