Critical Ass, New group trying to form 21.06.2010 01:48
Critical Ass, Monthly naked rides proclaim violence worse than nudity 4 children
I was shocked, enlightened and liberated by my experiences at the naked bike ride yesterday. I don't think once a year is enough for this type of event, it was a powerful display of community, cycling, and our right to ride on the streets. My friends and I are trying to form a new group to celebrate the human body and protest society's view of violence being less harmful to children than nudity. We are, however, way to shy to take to the streets by ourselves so I'd like to see if anyone is interested in joining a new group, critical ass. We are not mocking critical mass, we appreciate who they are and their message and appreciate their inspiration to take this a step further to speak to the public about another very important cause.

Helen Thomas Is Not A Bigot À La 'Eric Cartman', And Everyone Will Leave The Palestine And
The problems of Palestine are religious in nature. The religions have become conflated, of course, with 'race' and ethnicity. But religions have always been nothing more than aspects of mass media. Before television, organized religions ~were~ the mass media, since people would assemble every Saturday or Sunday to hear the propaganda of the ruling classes who financed the temples.

Red and Black Cafe asks cop to leave, mainstream media and boot-lickers throw a fit
Red and Black Worker-Owned Cafe For reasons unknown, former marine, Iraq-war veteran, current police officer, James Crooker went to the Red and Black worker-owned cafe in south east Portland and ordered coffee. He was given his coffee in a to-go cup and asked to leave due to the fact that cops make many people uncomfortable. This entirely reasonable act done out of concern for the well-being of other patrons has wrinkled the noses of Portland's cop-supporter community. The corporate media has jumped all over this not-very-exciting incident and loonies have been making anonymous threatening comments on blogs and what-not. Now is the time for all of us who have been supported by the Red and Black to show our support and solidarity as our friends and comrades come under attack.

The UC8 Reporter: A Personal Account of Police Abuse of Power Against a Free Press
It's hard to know where to start. I'm not used to writing stories about myself. Usually, I am the one sharing news about other people through recordings and words. I cover events and publish reports to Indybay. I often report on street demonstrations, some more rowdy than others. And while I recognize the privilege my skin-tone grants me in our society and that I have not taken the types of risks war reporters do, I know enough from having seen what's happened to other journalists over the years that I am not immune from abuses by law enforcement authorities.

Now is the time for unity, rage and action against these armed thugs the police. Occupation in the middle east, the build up of military bases in Latin America and the occupation of Turtle Island (North America)under this murderous state brings pain and suffering to billions everyday. The racist henchmen of the empire have killed another homeless disabled man in our town. We must come together in opposition to the ongoing murders. The killings by the police in Portland are inextricably tied to the murders in Afghanistan, Iraq, Columbia and everywhere else this empire has its hand.

Howard Beale died for your sins: the pitfalls of anticapitalism
Howard Beale is the fictional protagonist of Paddy Chayevsky's 1979 drama, Network. In this film, the Beale character, played by Peter Finch, is a network news anchorman who is slated to be retired by his network due to failing ratings. In the midst of a midlife crisis, Beale, his tv career coming to an end, which was the only focus of his life's energies, is plunged into a state of despondency. Having a nervous breakdown, he issues a surprise announcement in the middle of the news show that he will be closing his next and final appearance as anchorman by blowing his brains out on national television. His boss at the tv network decides that he is obviously deranged and should be yanked from the air, but by a curious chain of circumstances, the network decides instead to keep him on and he soon becomes annointed as "Howard Beale, the Mad Prophet of the Airwaves, denouncing the lies and hypocrisies of our times." All goes well for Beale in his new role as the host of a top-rated new prime time tv show with a subversive, anticorporate and antiestablishment message, for a time...
