actions & protests

Global resistance is rising. In response, the global corporate media have done everything in their power to downplay the size, scale, number, and importance of protests, marches, actions, organizing, and other forms of resistance. In the United States, the peace and social justice movements in other countries are rarely mentioned. You only have to look at the coverage of peace marches in European countries, the U.S. backed coup in Venezuela, the growing movements in Latin America and South America, and countless others to begin to see the pattern. Likewise, news about organizing, tactics, and actions occurring within the U.S. are often concealed from the global community

These pages represent a testament to the variety of ways that people are learning to come together to resist the various forces of oppression they face in their daily lives. These pages will not be silent to the large numbers of people from every conceivable background who are waking up from the long nightmare that is our civilization and starting to act to bring about change. Another world is possible and it is worth fighting for.

Save the Library Staff

From the open publishing newswire: Libraries should hire additional staff to mitigate the unemployment. Because of the coronavirus, supply chains break off and sixty-percent of businesses cannot come back. The state should represent the public interest, not special or private interests, and give substantial support to small- and medium-sized businesses. Otherwise, we face exploding inequality, economic power becoming political power, & an oligarchy. Whoever sleeps in democracy, wakes up in a dictatorship.
Save the Multnomah Library Staff

The library should be hiring additional staff to redress the unemployment and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus!
Here is a letter I sent to:  http://savelibrarystaff.org:

The approach is wrong

From the open publishing newswire: violence is not the answer

I'm [IM] history protest was a key factor for discussion.

Violence causing harm and damage often led to consequences that differ than desired goals.

When we founded Indymedia in 1998 and 1999. Our goal was to bring a voice to offer discussion in hope of change.. before, during and after the WTO in Seattle.

The one thing we realized from both sides was discussion was important, violence was counter productive. [...]

What Happened to Indymedia?

PIMC back on-line From the open publishing newswire: What happened to indymedia. it seems like everything radical has gone dormant.

I remember when it started twenty years ago there was a lot of energy going into it but in like a generation the whole thing has shifted. everything has shifted. it doesn't seem like there is much of anything going on anymore. there is lots happening online but it doesn't accomplish anything particularly radical. almost all of the online organizing is filtered through corporate social media sites. i'm just a ranty old bitch but i am trying to understand why the radical movements of the recent 20 years mostly just whithered up and disappeared and it seems like no one even noticed it happened.

No Fair is Fair

From the open publishing newswire: This was my first protest I have been to in a long time. I went cause of what is happening around the world right now and a new class consciousness emerging we have not had a class consciousness in this country in a long time. When I arrived there were a few young people dressed in black standing on the edge of pioneer square. After a few minutes more continued to arrive I would say a few dozen came. One participant asked me if I had a mask I said I did and thanked them for their concern. There was some right wing agitators and trolls but many people came up and asked me what was happening and I told them the best I could, but they needed to talk to the Youth Liberation Front. Seriously a great group of youth dedicated and passionate. After being there for a while I had to leave afterwards they marched on trimet and took free ride.

Say no to Trimet cops they way to fund trimet is to not criminalize the poor!

Portland Copwatch: FOLLOW-UP: The City/PPB still don't understand the text scandal

From the open publishing newswire: Portland Copwatch wishes to express concern with the conclusions being
drawn from the follow up on the Lt. Niiya texting scandal. The
investigation has cleared Niiya of violating Bureau policy. The Mayor
and Chief are claiming that new training for officers to act as liaisons
in crowd situations led to the "success" of the August 17 proto-fascist
/ anti-fascist demonstrations. [...]

The lesson the City and Police still have to learn is that the First
Amendment doesn't contemplate negative repercussions from the state for
those who refuse to communicate when they exercise their rights, nor
does it grant privileges to those who do talk with the authorities. [...]

Fouad Kaady From the open publishing newswire: We remember.

We remember the brutal murder of Fouad Kaady on this date in 2005, by Sandy police officer & Clackamas County deputy. Those of us who met the good Kaady family & supported them, told them we would not forget. And we meant it.

With Donald Trump in the White House, these efforts have escalated to threats of all-out military violence, the plundering of billions of dollars in wealth from the Venezuelan people and pushing a multitude of outrageous lies in the global media.
